Pip-Pip old chap! Last one in is a rotten egg what what.

Getting the trailer ready to pack for camping holiday and I discover that the panda drains are clogged so there's an inch of water in the footwell, great, need to dry that out before we go away for 2 weeks. Then I drag the trailer into the garage to pack it out of the rain and last year's tarp has split, so that's soaking too. Luckily that's nice and flat floored so carpet wet vac to the rescue:

The rose colored glasses are off (also, I'm bitchy and tired).

I have 2 department managers, plus multiple overnight leads. Apparently manager A (the actual head department manager) never communicated to manager B (B hired me, and gave the very strong impression that (a) he's the head dept manager and (b) I'd only be in frozen a day, maybe 2 days a week when he told me I'd be helping them out - both lies) that I'm having issues with my hands with the cold. Or they did communicate and B forgot (plausible, since he's admitted to me he's ingested about as many chemicals as I did in his 20s, but I had to explain to him what neuropathy is). At this point I'm just waiting for the 90 day probationary period to be up so I can request a transfer to another department that runs overnights, because frozen, at least, is a shitshow.

But this coming schedule is interesting. 2 days in frozen, 1 in grocery, one in drug/general merchandise. The D/GM one was a real wildcard that caught me off guard. Well, it turns out one guy in frozen got promoted to frozen lead (I found out yesterday), and he knows I hate frozen, so he asked grocery bosses to try to give me more hours in grocery (thank you, Q). It also turns out D/GM has someone who just took a 6 month leave of absence; the overnight lead in GM also writes their schedule (I had no idea he was a lead, I just knew he was the only other LGBT male on overnights, so we wind up BSing a lot on breaks - he also helps grocery a lot when we're behind). We talked a little this morning, and he told me he knew how unhappy I was with frozen, and he thought I'd be a big help while their full timer was on their LOA on days that he can get me away from frozen. From what he told me, it's a lot more laid back over there, they just can't hit OT (except for managers). I work 4 days a week, so OT isn't usually an issue for me (but I usually wind up with 10 hour days - I've hit OT a few times, but never by more than an hour).

the downer: dept manager B told me my schedule "will be changing", and that he couldn't tell me why. that's... annoying, I'm going to be really pissed if I lose my night in D/GM. Also, I had to set my schedule for my other job at 10am yesterday, so if he changes it up significantly that means forfeiting my work for the week with other job. But I also know B doesn't seem to know how to re-publish the schedule (so he can print a paper copy of his revisions, but they never go live on the employee portal); I've brought this up with an overnight lead before, and he told me if I'm ever unsure, go by the schedule shown by the portal or employee app, and make sure to take a screenshot.

As Q (former coworker, now semi-boss starting Monday) keeps saying... "I feel like I had this nightmare yesterday!".

NB is best Miata, imo. A good bit more refined than an NA, but still raw in comparison to most other cars out there. The only thing missing is the barn doors.

I hope that my car search is over, too. I'm getting a check cut tomorrow and supposed to meet the guy, saw the car and drove it yesterday, but not saying anything because I've had my chain jerked a half-dozen times in the last month. When it's in the garage, I'll consider the deal done.

Just messaged the guy. '02 BRG, black top, black interior and in immaculate condition, 50k miles for 7 grand. If it's nice as he says it is it's way worth it. Phone pics are kinda grainy but it looks pretty good, it was garaged that's for sure.

Also been burned in the past so I never get too excited until the title is in my hands and I'm driving away.

This is one of those things that's really rather simple, but infuriating.

I use Gmail. When people send me emails with inline images that are loving huge (i.e. my dad), Gmail insists on displaying them full size, rather than scaling them to fit the message window, and as a result the emails are a pain in the arse to read with the side-scrolling involved etc.

As far as I can see, there is no option at all in Gmail to change this, all you can do is choose whether images auto-load or not, which isn't at all helpful (and doesn't change how big the images are when they are displayed).

I can get a plugin to do it in Chrome, but that doesn't help me on other browsers.

What the gently caress? "Scale images to fit window" should be the default, and from what I can see, it's not even an option?

It's a Mini Van. That particular one is a Leyland version built on the MkIII Mini (aka the Clubman), so that would make it about the late 70's.

Retail is the best, isn't it? The confusing, overlapping levels of management and disregard for employees just feel amazing

It's so awesome! And this is supposedly one of the best retailers to work for (FFS, Glassdoor has their CEO in the top 10 in the US). Yeah, there's no loving communication at all. 2 months in and I still have no idea of the actual leadership structure of the store - I know who the store GM is, I know who "center store manager" is (only because he was the final person to interview me), I know who "admin" is (apparently she's sort of an arm of HR), and I know who my direct bosses are. I'm slowly starting to figure out who each department manager is. I can actually get a hierarchy map if I log into the employee portal while at work (I can get bits and pieces at home, but Peoplesoft and Salesforce can't be accessed from home), but they just released a (much needed) overhaul of the portal over the weekend. I don't know where anything is on it now, but on the upside, it's no longer based on loving Sharepoint... 30 seconds to load the goddamn home page after logging in on that piece of poo poo, on a PC with 16GB of RAM and a SSD :cripes:.

When I left yesterday, dept manager B told me my schedule would be changed today. Well, he's off today. I asked dept manager A about it. He gave me a weird look and said "no, he's off today, and the deadline to make any changes is noon today. I didn't plan on making any changes, I hate changing it once it's been published". He'd approached me when he came in at 5 and asked if I saw that I'd be in 3 departments (well, 2 parts of grocery, plus D/GM), and asked if I had any issue with it (gently caress no I don't, it gets me out of frozen for a couple of days, and thank you for finding me hours in other departments when you don't have hours to give me). On my way out the door today, after mentioning B said my schedule would probably change, I casually mentioned "I kinda get the feeling B doesn't know what he's talking about half the time" (mostly joking, but it really does seem that way), which got a pretty hearty laugh and a "Make that most of the time" out of A.

Still, the bulk of the store is part time - over 800 employees. :cripes: So I can see how poo poo can fall through the cracks in a hurry, especially when we're the second largest department by head count (behind frontend - cashiers/baggers), and the highest volume department. The Whole Foods I worked at had about 350 employees (mostly full time; they're pretty much all part time now); the store I work in is a bit bigger (about a 20,000 sq ft difference), but runs 2.5x the volume per week.

+1, cancer is the dumps. I don't know if I mentioned it to this group but amidst all the other drama in my life, my mom has had a hell of a couple months in the same vein. In early May (right after we closed on the housing transactions) she went to her doctor complaining of abdominal pain and some bleeding, and that became an ultrasound, which became an MRI, which became urgent surgery a day after her 65th birthday to remove multiple masses. That ended up being a 7 hour surgery where they did a hysterectomy and also had to bisect a portion of the lower bowel that had adhered to the cancerous tumor on one of her ovaries.

She spends almost a week in the hospital but was recovering well, then right after being sent home she sees her oncologist, who without any other follow-up tests after the surgery, has the gall to tell her she has 6-18 months to live.

What really got me about that awful diagnosis was the lack of care in how it was presented and perhaps more importantly that it was done before any follow-ups had taken place after the surgery! During the surgery they couldn't see any signs of cancer anywhere else in her abdominal cavity, the organs they could see beyond her ovaries were intact and visually fine, etc etc.

So since then - she's had more MRIs and CT scans and a colonoscopy and endoscopy - and guess what? - her healthcare providers can't find any more signs of cancer. Even then one of her oncologists wants to put her on chemo which I think is nuts especially if she's asymptomatic and they don't have a target to treat, but, I'm not a doctor. Either way, she's going in for another test this AM, and while ironically I think she's in the best health she's been in in over 20 years, Kaiser is probably rightfully now doing their due diligence but it still sucks for her.

T-Square, this sucks for you guys and it's going to suck more before it gets better. :( With that said in my -very- limited experience with this, if your girlfriend receives either weird diagnoses or treatment paths that don't totally add up, don't be afraid (hah) to ask questions and to engage in a 2nd (or more) opinions. My fun urgent care story. Fiance visited urgent care for a suspected UTI. Dr agreed and gave her meds and sent her on the way. Hours later she calls back to complain about continuing pain and Dr. doubles down on just wait for meds to work. An hour after that she has a baby. Turns out UTI=Labor. Yes this was a surprise baby like in the TLC show. No, don't ever go to urgent care if you have alternatives.

She is far more intelligent than I, and has a pretty good handle on how things work in general medical-wise. If she thinks she's getting hosed by someone she won't hesitate to reach out to someone else.

That being said, her best friend since elementary school comes from a ritzy doctor family, and her father has gotten my girlfriend and her doctor in touch with who he believes is the best oncologist in the area. So fingers crossed he can help us. I'm just very angry at the fact that this could have been caught weeks ago, which probably would have been a huge swing in favor of her outcome.

We just moved in together two weekends ago and finished moving the rest of her stuff in yesterday. This sucks.

E: This is another thing that is greatly bothering me:

Tremek posted:

Her and her doctor and radiologist assumed going in that it was some sort of gall bladder issue, and did an ultrasound. Radio silence. A few days passed before they called and said there were multiple masses on her liver that weren't cysts, we need to schedule an MRI. Radio silence. We couldn't get in anywhere for a week, and the MRI was last Wednesday. Radio silence. They waited until the very last minute on Friday (like almost 6:00PM) to call with her diagnosis. At least now her doctor seems to be realizing the severity of the situation and has already reached out to all of the necessary people first thing this morning to get everything that needs to be done, done as quickly as possible.
