So hang on a sec. If you're flying around the main map on the Gummi Ship...what the hell are you being launched out of at the start of each mission? Are you flying around in a carrier shaped like a Gummi Ship and then doing missions in a smaller, identical Gummi Ship?

It really is the Gummi Ship equivalent of the Great Fox launching the Arwings to clear the way.

the morale mechanic is honestly such a weird misstep, especially due to the fact that it pops up when the game finally opens up. i've seen a lot of people give up around this point because drat does it give much promise for the rest of the game.
while its done to further make each world feel different in at least some ways, imo a more mechanically straight world would've worked out much better for people to get what the game is actually like.

anyway, here's the next update where we finish out the dang world.

I gotta imagine we're going to be seeing more castle defense events and that they're going to get worse.

I know the main evil group of villains is Organization XIII and their army of Dusks, but I would have liked to seen the council of Disney villains planning Heartless things again.

Sora has to - to finish off a boss in this game, you have to land a combo finisher, and Mickey doesn't have any.

Keyholes in various hidden places in KH1 was cool and made sense. Those same keyholes showing up in objects in KH2 is a very odd touch.

The game explains it as opening the paths between worlds, not closing the keyholes that lead to the hearts of worlds. Basically they're Sora finding a space path to follow. Mostly through the power of friendship as far as I can tell.

Opening the path to new worlds makes sense. Those keyholes being in objects because of friendship makes sense in an "anime as gently caress" way.

That cutscene would've been a lot more threatening if they'd made a bunch of those horsedudes instead of the flying needles.

Although I don't know if the PS2 could handle putting that many of them on screen at once.

Using the keyblade's unlocking power as a fight mechanic is a neat idea.

It's an interesting choice to set this world in between the events of the movie. It makes it feel more like one of the straight-to-video sequels they made rather than the actual film.

Bold of them to just let you play with Beast as a party member almost immediately.

Also holy cow, why is the music in there trying to defeat the rest of the cutscene as soon as they stop being voiced.

You know it's a KH2 LP when the board commentary turns into crickets during the Disney worlds. At least in KH1 the business in the Disney worlds actually somewhat relates to the villains' overall schemes.

Oh well, at least KH2 is still better than KH3 in that regard.

What's more, at least what the baddies are up to in the various Disney worlds of KH2 are somewhat, sort of tangentially related to their ultimate goals? Meanwhile, in KH3 they like to pretend they are but in reality nothing they do actually matters in the least bit.

Edit: I'll also say that KH3 has what I'd consider the most fun Disney worlds in the entire series, especially Olympus, Toy Story and the Pirates of the Caribbean of all things (at least after a somewhat long obnoxious opening segment); San Fransokyo is also pretty fun if a lot smaller. It's just that nothing that happens in them actually matters, at all, except for maybe reminding Sora that Replicas are a thing.

Yeah I can't decide how I feel about the new pace. On one hand it feels nice to just blaze through the worlds way faster than KH1's, on the other hand the Disney worlds definitely feel like they have less consequence to the plot.

Not to mention the fact that KH2's Disney Worlds lack both the verticality of KH1's worlds and the wide openness of KH3's, so they just tend to be long corridors of heartless battles mixed up with obnoxious minigames for no reason, a frustratingly non-significant number of them being escort missions. They do fly by at a nice clip at least.

KH2 is also probably my favorite of the three main entries.

Oh, Crash.

I love back in 99 when Shakespeare in Love won and we were all like "This is it. This is the worst movie that will ever win the best picture oscar" and the academy has been saying "hold my beer" ever since.

Also I like the music in Beast's Castle, but why did they feel the need to re-orchestrate all of the game's music for every subsequent re-release of this game?

This game really makes me appreciate how straightforward DMC 3 and Psychonauts are.

Also, has anyone heard anything about another Series of Unfortunate Events movie? I thought it did fine when it came out last year and you'd think they'd be quick to say oh yeah we're working on the next one but it just feels like there's just been nothing but silence so far.

Yeah I wonder about that too. Most of the reorchestrations are fine (and a handful are a lot better than the original midis) but occasionally one manages to hit the mark of the original. And even if all of them were good, I still wish there was just an option to choose whichever soundtrack you preferred.
