So, my ISP is Talktalk, and for about a week I’d had problems with intermittent sync, so on Wednesday I rang up tech support and sorted it out. (Amusingly they decided the problem was the router, which it obviously wasn’t as there had also been problems with the phone line, and the issue resolved itself immediately after they ran their tests, but I guess I have a spare Talktalk router now.) Anyway, the very next day I get a phone call from someone claiming to be from Openreach, and it seemed plausible considering what had happened the night before. He had an extremely thick accent though, and very loud noise behind him and a poor connection so I could barely understand him. I went along with it though, since it seemed appropriate. Thankfully I’m not a total rube though, and when they painstakingly spelled out a URL to go to I searched for it on Google instead. And yep, it was a scam. He squawked incomprehensibly when I accused him, and then I hung up. Then they called back twice! The second time they just hung up when I said the word “scam”, but the first one got indignant and insisted that it couldn’t be a scam since they hadn’t charged me for this call - I pointed out that of course I wasn’t being charged as it was them who called me. He pretty much said “Yes. Well, nevertheless...” and I hung up. So it seems like Talktalk somehow immediately leaked my interaction with them to scammers. So they can get hosed. I wanted to upgrade to fibre anyway, so I’m getting a new ISP. Cursory research suggests Vodafone might be a good idea, especially since they are my mobile provider too. Anyone had trouble with them?

The concept is that instead of having a "state" with "laws" you instead have a variety of DROs you can "subscribe" to which offer any variety of laws you like, and if you and another guy's DRO disagree on whether you did something wrong when you seized his land, they go and settle it via a form of arbitration that is amenable to both organizations, which definitely won't be a shooting match. the only time I ever watch the news is lunchtime at work because for some reason people think it's a noncontroversial choice (and to be fair it's a marked improvement on four in a bed or escape to the country) which quite often ends up with me making some pointed comment to our scum gently caress senior managers e.g. when Theresa may was crying about getting kicked out of downing Street and my oval office former boss* walked in and said he felt sorry for her to which I gave a very loud "I don't" and then said she was a horrible person who'd done a terrible job *sometimes I find myself wondering if my hatred of him is slightly overblown and based on petty slights that I'm making a massive deal over, e.g. him talking to me like a 5 year old when he thinks he knows the answer to something I don't (generally he is wrong), but then he does something objectively cunty, e.g. last week he brought foie gras to the work barbecue or when I said £40,000 wasn't a low salary when the news was talking about them moving the upper rate tax band like it was a tax cut for anyone other than high earners and the CFO disagreed and I disagreed back (in hindsight and having looked up the company house info it's probably because the mean salary here is like £50,000) I've stopped eating lunch there when they're likely to be around and am looking for a new job e: although I do sort of want to catch one of them bitching about Boris so I can make an innocent comment about how anyone who voted Tory in 2017 voted for this and trigger a meltdown XMNN fucked around with this message at 21:26 on Aug 2, 2019 |

No I think it's a terrible idea. I don't see how minority issues will be at all supported in this system, or crimes that are hard to enforce. After all why not have a cost cutting DRO that says, idk, enforcing wheelchair access to work environments is too much of a pain in the rear end and if you don't like it subscribe to someone who cares. Except we gunned the company that gives a poo poo about wheelchair access down over this a few months ago. The irony being that some of our workers needed wheelchairs as a result of the gunfire. Lol we just hired new ones.

And the answer to the latter question is either 1. That's against the non aggression principle. Or rather more likely: 2. being wheelchair bound isn't marketable therefore it's right that you die. Or 3 I guess everyone will not subscribe to the wheelchair murder company because their ethical principles will cause them to vote with their dollar and they'll go out of business you know like actually happens in real life all the time oh wait.

We're actually a subcontractor with Amazon DRO that handles their standard rate members (prime members are people with working legs who can work in the amazon distributon center) and we offer our customers the option of volunteering for nutrient reprocessing when they get tired of their Safe Space TM containment cubicles in exchange for a donation of £250 to their surviving family members.

I do like the "ideal" version of libertarianism where the state fucks off and lets people form their own communities and do what they want. I resent the hegemony that comes with national identities and the machinations of the state. However the reality of libertarianism is that the corporation becomes the state and is just as imposing or oppressive as the state if not moreso. Rather than the hippies creating local communities that I'd like to see, it becomes more of a economic and social mosh pit where only the strongest get close to the stage.

I still can't get over that there are ancaps who love company scrip. At least with the goldbugs and bitcoiners they're just economically illiterate, rather than saying "okay, let's take the paper money out of government hands and instead of putting it in the hands of the community or municipality lets give control entirely to a board of directors."
