Yeah they're not my favorite band in the world, but the local college metal station has been playing the whole album in order, one track every hour, for the past week and it's growing on me quite a bit

So lucky I was able to snag that /100 limited vinyl also, Signs of the Swarm have a new, absolute rear end beater of a song, and I'm just now hearing about this? turns out, my youtube history proves i've already heard this song. i think i just rejected it at first because i absolutely hate metal videos and reject them immediately. anyway the song rules and breakdowns in general are also just a great thing i'm glad they exist

Saw the first show of the Harm's Way/Jesus Piece/Portrayal of Guilt/Fuming Mouth show last night. I was expecting to need a suit of armor to survive but the crowd was very subdued during the first two bands. I got up front for PoG, who loving ruled. A hardcore dancer tried to do a cartwheel at the end of their set but he had terrible form if I'm being honest. Then Jesus Piece went on and it was like a loving bomb went off. The venue instantly got ten times sweatier and the pit took up half the floor. They were incredibly intense. Harm's Way were good too, but not quite as insane. I've seen them a couple of times so it was nothing new, though slightly different as a hometown headliner than as the opener for a touring metal band. Also TIL that Jesus Piece frontman Aaron Heard is also the bass player in the shoegaze band Nothing, which is very funny to me. I can understand it at a show where it's expected, but it's incredibly frustrating to be at a metalcore show where 99% of people are just generically moshing and have some dude decide he's gonna be the one to stand in the middle and throw windmills at full force.

moving around at heavy music shows means either: hardcore dancing (superior, more predictable therefore actually safer, cooler looking bc it takes some level of skill/practice to do right/well) or pantera/slayer pushpit fat sweaty dickhead loser poo poo (looks dumb and sloppy, caters to huge macho shirtless dudes who wind up dominating the pit, zero females ever bother participating, you can never get "good" at it)

kumba posted:i will admit i've never paid much attention to northlane but their new one is....... not good, at least the first few tracks. i gave up pretty quick Awww, I've been loving it. I liked their debut a lot and then not much from them since. But like Freefall is just a really good Architects song, the riff @3:26 of Sleepless is Tool, there's some good Rammstein copies, there's some good Invent, Animate copies… the new tape is pretty good, if not wholly original. Anyway, kumba, I assume you've played that new Contortionist EP today, but don't sleep on Unprocessed's new one. I like it 100% better than their last one, and it was pretty decent. I think it's gonna be your thing. Not sure it fits in this thread. But this definitely does, and it has me hyyyyped for the full thing in October: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLT81QYpTzw Hardcore dancing looks uncool.
