"Driving it underground" is exactly the right thing to do. The more isolated these toxic cunts are, and the more difficult it is to even find their poo poo, the harder it becomes for them to draw in new recruits and create self-sustaining feedback loops of radicalisation.

Historically censorship and deplatforming (unplatforming?) works really well at breaking up extremism, man. It's very difficult to rebuild communities when everyone is scattered to the wind, and a lot of people are too lazy and/or not dedicated enough to seek out offshoot groups. It doesn't end the problem but it's infinitely better than leaving it out in the open, because simple exposure to, for example, far right talking points does a lot to influence people whether they like it or not.

I saw it yesterday but can't remember where but basically a study found that after Reddit banned certain hateful subreddits, while some of the more dedicated shitheads hefted their doilies and stomped off to voat, a significant portion returned to the "normal" reddit population and stopped sharing and commenting on hateful poo poo. Cutting out 8chan will prevent the normalish-but-vulnerable-to-radicalisation from maintaining their dose of nazi juice.
