Or, to put it another way: if I take £100 out of your bank account, but I give you back one in exchange, does that sound like a good loving exchange? Does that sound like something worthy even of bringing up in a positive sense?

Sorry it seems I haven't communicated clearly as straw men are springing up everywhere.

I don't think fossil fuel companies 'work' as someone posted or are fond of a 'good loving exchange'. Of course they need taken to task, however we need their money and likely their engineering and delivery capacity to prevent catastrophe faster than we can deliver the global reform necessary to take the wheel.

If you think we can get out of the pocket of big oil fast enough to deliver the research and investment necessary to avert the climate crisis you are dreaming. By all means take the fight to them, but take their money and support wherever you can get it as well. We need it now, not when Corbyn takes America or whatever, now. If someone gets even richer as a result so what?

There are potential key allies in already Government controlled companies. Hopefully they will turn into the examples other follow.

I would suggest that given about 50% of his posting is "oh but socialism would hurt me because I don't want to have any sort of participation in anything" I'm going to suggest that he has quite a lot of trouble giving the faintest poo poo about anyone else.

Like if you are actually incapable of having any sort of working relationship with literally anyone then I'm gonna say you're an oik. You live in an interconnected world and it would be a much better one if it were more so.
Also capitalism is ridiculously based on networking and nepotism over merit so it's not like it's any better if you don't get on with people.

In fact it's worse, because you not only have to get on with people, you have to get on with the 'right' people, who seldom are.

There are plenty of normal private companies today where people get fired for being weird or asocial, what would being worker directed have to do with it?

Their money is directly proportional to the problem you are trying to combat, you need them to not have any money any more because they're broke and/or dead.

The other thing about WSDE is that in the world they're a tool to bring about, you wouldn't need to work and neither would you be constantly bombarded with pressures on all sides to incite you to buy crap.

E: serious answer: she's part of a privileged demographic whose only interaction with the EU is the positive aspects: easy holidays, cheap imports, freedom of movement to study/work (as a beneficiary). If you've not been on the receiving end of austerity economics it's easy to look at the EU as a happy friends club designed to keep peace in Europe and facilitate cultural understanding rather than a extremely dodgy neoliberal trading bloc.

There are potential key allies in already Governmnt controlled companies. Hopefully they will turn into the examples other follow.

The issue is that they're powerful, and their power lies in their ability to produce fossil fuels and the world's dependence on them. So sure we need their power - but it's not in their interests to give it up, especially not to the extent where it brings about their own demise. So their "help" typically comes with a lot of caveats, including compromise around stuff that would hurt their business model

That's what you have to watch out for - things that basically allow them to keep on as they are, that delay important changes or weaken restrictions, as well as stuff like greenwashing that hides all of this from the public perception. policy being tailored to pander to them (partly because people making policy are often connected to or at least lobbied by these companies, they just need the public cover to do it). If they're not making a net-positive contribution to the effort, and you're not willing to nationalise them to command their resources or at least impose serious regulation and controls, then it might be necessary to shut them out entirely

He knew the importance of the great outdoors because he spent most of his time there killing things.

Plus teddy bears are named after the one time he didn't kill something.

I don't think he'd be caught dead in a Union Flag hat though, so that's one thing.
