It's also very difficult to kill yourself that way. Simple ligatures rarely have enough pressure to fully cut off all oxygen to the brain. You need an anchor thatll be able to support your weight and a ligature that can do the same. If he did it that way chances are he'd have struggled for a long while and made a lot of noise doing it.
