Carolina would like to select Paul Ladue as their 7th D. 17 points in 67 games is pretty good, but had a bit of a rough time of it last year. Despite that great entrance/exit stats and solid corsi. Have I mentioned LA was a disaster last year? We feel confident Ladue can slot in with a protected role, but might not kill us if he has to play as a #4.

I'll take Jamie Oleksiak on my bottom-pair, most famous for a) how tall he is b) who his sister is. He seems decent defensively so he'll help out Bouchard.

Reilly Smith - Steven Stamkos - Justin Williams
Zach Hyman - Matt Duchene - Robert Thomas
Andrew Mangiapane - Anthony Cirelli - Andrew Cogliano
Barclay Goodrow - Casey Cizikas - Josh Ho-Sang

Mark Giordano - Calvin de Haan
Adam Pelech- Ryan Ellis
Jamie Oleksiak- Evan Bouchard

Carter Hutton
Brian Elliott

Ottawa takes Radim Simek to finalize the defensive core. He came over to NA two years ago after several years in the Czech leagues, and he quickly earned a spot on the sharks roster. By the end of the his injury shortened season he was playing second pairing ES minutes with Burns, and doing fairly well at it as the defensively responsible part of the pairing.

Plus he’s on a great contract.

I’m pretty sure I can make this work.

The Anaheim Ducks select Jeff Carter

He’s 34, with 3 years remaining at $5.272M. Looking at my current roster:

Dylan Strome is the only player who needs a raise next season. Carter plus two more guys at $1m gives me about $6 million, plus any cap increase to pay Strome. Beaulieu is more or less replaceable if he earns himself a significant pay bump as a free agent.

In 21/22, Carter’s final year, I have quite a few expiring contracts, primarily Saros who should be an established starter at that point. However - Perreault and Larsson both come off the books that summer, and that frees up $8.3 million combined AAV. That’s also the summer of the expansion draft.

I have no idea how much gas Carter has left. He scored 33 points in 72 games last year on a really bad Kings team and there’s that chance that he comes back fit and healthy and looks like Jeff Carter again. If he’s still merely NHL-effective then he pushes one of my likely AHL guys out of the bottom six.

At round 21 it feels like a risk worth taking. Even if he’s a useless press box lump all year my roster's not any worse off than it was, and he's not a real cap problem for two more years. Unless he retires :v:
