People complaining that "Strategy" tag shows then Siege or that "RPG" tag shows them some RPGMaker poo poo clearly don't know how to use tags.
There are a poo poo ton of specific tags like "Turn-Based Strategy", "Real-Time Strategy", "Party-Based RPG", "CRPG" etc etc etc whatever the gently caress you're looking for. You can even combine tags.

Steam's search could've had way more options but it's way better than you make it out to be.
.

When I go to a grocery store to buy pasta sauce there isn't chili interspersed with the pasta sauce with an explanation that it is has tomatoes in it and chili mac is a thing so it actually is pasta sauce, if you really think about it.

Having to pair down search terms and add a bunch of additional tags for subgenres in order to exclude games that are, at best, tangentially related to a major, long standing genre with well established expectations is annoying.

Used to be able to click that tag and find a relevant or interesting title that I hadn't heard of or considered, and now I can't be bothered because half the games listed aren't going to even be in the genre I searched for unless you do yoga to justify it like that dude did with Siege.

If I search for RTS I'll miss something interesting that is turn based and if I do separate searches I'm now taking twice as long to find something interesting.

If Epic had an extensive library and basic storefront functionality this is actually a place where they could win me over.

Forcing a single Major genre tag (strategy, building, action, rpg, sim, adventure, casual) and then allowing minor subgenre tags in addition would at least keep the page navigable for browsing, and make it a better experience for both consumers, and developers since popular titles that are in a specific genre wouldn't be filling up the list for a genre they are inappropriate for, making the smaller titles more visible.

For a major Genre tag it should be the first genre to come up when describing the game, which for Siege or PubG or World of Tanks or Warthunder would be Action, Sim or Shooter, not Strategy.

It's true though. Anyway, I checked the tags for fun, and I'd say "Strategy" is not as egregious as classifying it as "Psychological Horror"
Also, doesn't users set these tags?

Edit: I'd say that for anyone looking for an FPS with strategy elements, Siege is definitely up there

Any game can be classed as psychological horror if it has multiplayer.

You are a monster and very, very wrong in your tastes.

Edit: Upon further consideration, "Rogue-like" is too vague and largely meaningless now. I want a tag that's "BoI-like" for games that are randomized/procedurally generated but have a ton of synergies.

That's understandable and I actually had a discussion with somebody at work earlier this week about that, regarding Dark Souls vs. Remnant.

I just really like games like Binding of Isaac, Hades, Slay the Spire, and Dead Cells. Something about having each run feel very samey but also be completely different depending on what the RNG dictates appeals to me.

I love the "Can only play for 10 min" aspect of the current action rogue-likes. And if you have to leave/don't have time? Just die, nothing was lost and some progress was made.

That’s it, your post ends there. EGS isn’t even on Linux.

FYI: It actually does run under Lutris and you can buy stuff and play games, just like Origin. Epic-purchased “Easy Anti-Cheat” used by Fortnite (and Apex Legends) is incompatible with emulation, though, so most uses for it are sorta pointless.

Last I looked Dauntless works, though character creation didn’t.

Pigbuster posted:

The biggest thing is that unlike SRW where you just unload on a boss with everything you have from the word go while they sit there with 30% HP/EN regen, FMW uses spellcards as a kind of health bar system.

A boss starts with 25K HP; when you burn that down to 0 they pop their first spellcard, setting their health to 30K while adding a new move to their kit for the rest of the fight. Normal bosses usually have 2-3 spellcards. Final bosses have around 8.

This means that blowing your load early hurts you in the long run, since you won't have the firepower to burn through their last spells, meaning resource management is critical.

On the flip side, every spellcard (aside from a final boss' last spellcard to stop you from completely cheesing it) has a timer. So even if you've horrifically hosed up and are unable to clear a spellcard, you can just stall them out instead of losing on the spot. You lose out on money and XP (and the bonus objective, usually) but you are able to continue moving forward.

So boss fights test you hard on being able to pace yourself for the duration, while also giving you an out if you screw up.

Control will be out tomorrow and it's a 3D metroidvania-style game from the makers of Max Payne and Alan Wake. I won't be buying it for at least a few weeks to give the lab rats other people a chance to buy it first and let some opinions form, but from the looks of it, it's pretty good.

Max Payne 3 and Alan Wake were kinda shite and the only two good modern metroidvania games I can think of were Bloodstained and Axiom Verge, so my hopes aren't high.
