Hoey has already deselected herself, so she may well be gone in bit more than a month.

Did anyone else in particular end up doing that?

The current hypothesis is that the universe cannot support the existence of one.

I wonder how history would have turned out if the UK had lost some war somewhere, or had a revolution, so that its constitution and laws were then completely overhauled - as has happened to every other European country. Like, even just once in the last 300 years. Maybe the legal system and its foundations wouldn't suck quite so badly after an overhaul

Tbh this whole shitshow has rather turned my opinion on our dumb system of government, the fact that literally everything is just convention means that no matter how hard someone tries to "game the system" you can just do some other weird poo poo to get around it. Seems better than having a system like the US where if you figure out "one weird trick to break the government" then everything's hosed forever

At the end of the day sometimes people are going to use government to do poo poo things one way or another, better to have a system which can theoretically be reshaped enough to be able to do good than have an entirely legalistic system which might just totally break down at some point and be so rigidly structured that it's impossible to fix

That is the repose of a man who is watching his prospects of premiership at the helm of an independent Britain go up in smoke before his eyes.

Just a couple of months ago he was potentially looking like the man of the hour. Now none of them are.

Never. Because the last time they tried that the monarch ceased to be relevant in a very different way to how the queen is now.
