So I've seen Gatecreeper mentioned in this thread several times, but for whatever reason I never actually checked them out. But just now I'm listening to a single from their upcoming album and HNNNGGGHHHH how is this guitar tone so loving good.

I was tired of the trend for a while but I finally bought an HM-2 clone last week and now I never want to touch other gain sounds help. Honestly it’s such a loving awesome metal guitar sound. I still remember when I was first getting into the swedish sound and was blown away that a guitar could sound that huge and nasty but still massively present. I had no clue how they did it for years. & yeah the drum sound on the new Gatecreeper is killer. Everything sounds huge but not overproduced. I’ll have to check out the other stuff posted and then delete all non hm-2 worship bands. e: bolt thrower can stay because they manage to dial a kinda similar tone in via their marshalls on a few albums

More than once it just sounded like parts of the last two album stapled together. Like, there's nothing wrong with it, and they're amazing musicians/people, but it's just missing something for me anymore. Oh well, I'll still listen to the album when it's out and hope I'm just a little too burnt-out on this style.

Saw Kever, Chthe’ilist, Lucifericon, Corpsessed, Adversarial, Abhorrence, Suffering Hour and Grave last night. Abhorrence and Suffering Hour in particular completely rocked my socks off. So goddamn good. Also ended up hanging out with dudes from some local bands (The Psyke Project, LLNN, Piss Vortex and UxDxS), which was rad.

Smaller release day friday: Sonata Arctica's new one is out on the usual platforms, I'm a few songs in and it sounds very sleepy and phoned in. I've been listening to their first 4 albums a ton recently and forgot this was even coming out Mizmor out on everything Runespell have a new album out today but it isn't up anywhere other than this one track. Solid 1 man Aussie bm Black Cilice, raw BM.
