I think 'Hero' is a more interesting idea than just 'furious dumbass' - after all, Aesma is the archetypal furious dumbass, and definitely not a hero. A hero seems to be, in this context, a furious dumbass with a higher purpose who is 2 furious 2 dumbass to recognize that their goal is impossible or impractical. An idealistic furious dumbass who will carve a new world from the old. Basically I think that Nyave's 'Oh! A hero!' can be read both naively and with a certain 'she's gonna die or kill everyone, but she's definitely going to shake things up' bent to it.

I also didn't make the cut, there were a ridiculous number of entries and even when you culled out the ones that were like photos of a sketch in a notebook or something it was clear there was a lot of really quality stuff going on. blastron posted:Oh, I made the cut! Oh good you made it! I was trying to figure out an easy way to see who was in besides scrolling endlessly through names. You had a really clean concept, glad you got in. If I have learned something from this it's that I should maybe invest in learning some digital art techniques, because mine was sketched, inked, and colored with watercolors and scanned in, which is not a great workflow.

Out of curiosity, was Sabriel any inspiration on the concept and aesthetic? No, I didn’t. I actually started with “what if hatsune miku but k6bd” and went from there. I tried to keep as many callbacks to Miku’s character design in there as possible (blue tie, loose sleeves, tall boots, hair parted in two, reference to the number 39, similar-sounding name) without making it too obvious. I’m hoping people in the discord only notice really deep into the bracket and then boo me out of the server. When I got to “how do you fight with music” I got reminded of an old character I had in a MUD that spun crystals to make vibrations to do magic, then boiled that down to just making tones, then built that back up into whistles and tuning forks. After that it was all just figuring out how to make it fit in the K6BD metaphysics and coming up with reasonable effects, and then figuring out how to make it an interesting fighting style.
