I was a work during the game and turned it off in disgust after the first couple drives. Packers were awful from what I saw but got the win somehow. Perhaps the highlights will show me differently, but I can't see our offense winning games. The only reason the defense seemed good was because the bears are even worse

Packers defense looked a bit less lost, offense looked the same to me, a casual observer, bears offense looks cooked. Week 1 so maybe the rust will shake off but Trubs didn't look good last year either lol

Im not saying he should start right away but theres a quarterback with basically no wear and tear on them who has already made all the money he needs to and would just play to win (tm) and has been resting for a few years now and absolutely cant be worse than trubinsky

Master Stur posted:Packers defense looked a bit less lost, offense looked the same to me it looked to me like the packors were deploying a lot of lafleur's concepts in the first half, then by the second half (or like partway through the second quarter, really) had reverted to more or less the same type of thing mccarthy used to do. Maybe trying to capitalize on rogers' familiarity with that playstyle, maybe just because lafleur didn't feel confident leaning on the new stuff yet the stretch of time where they were using new stuff included both the 2 awful opening drives and the one good touchdown drive, so its sort of a wash i guess will reserve judgment until after the starters have had more opportunity to shake the rust off, and until ive seen em against a couple of more typical defenses PupsOfWar fucked around with this message at 05:20 on Sep 6, 2019 |

I don't get why it's so hard to admit you hosed up and move on.

I don't get why it's so hard to admit you hosed up and move on. It would be silly to immediately cut ties with a guy who's still young, cheap and not conclusively worse than whatever QB will be available in free agency They should absolutely be aggressive about targeting a QB to replace him by the time his contract is up, though. Sucks they don't have a first rounder next year

You don't necessarily cut ties, but if this season doesn't show development they'd be dumb to not think about a future replacement. He looked like he regressed today. That said they were like 48-12 dropbacks-runs which is spectacularly bad balance considering their personnel.

The team is quite good except for him. If he isn't clearly starting caliber by the end of the year you get some one else. The best available options this past off season were Flacco, Foles, and maybe Keenum. Any one of them would have won tonight. You have to try to do something with the talented team they have. Those guys won't stick around for long.

BlindSite posted:Lol, one game and it's lost season sign Kaepernick time. Trubisky looked really bad and the Bears are really not in a position to wait out a struggling inconsistent QB, so I get the griping. They certainly shouldn't give him too much rope, considering where the roster's at, and it would be really disheartening if this team didn't succeed because their franchise QB turned out to be a bust But yeah, it's one game. Mitch looked really bad sometimes last year too and he looked good enough at others. He's probably not The Guy if he's capable of playing that poorly, but the defense is great and it's unreasonable to assume Nagy was actually a gigantic fraud who can't coach an offense at all. Blake Bortles almost made the Super Bowl once! Ya gotta make do with what you got
