Beautiful. Particularly love Rory '30 degree lean' Stewart. In local news, popular Green MEP Molly Scott Cato is apparently running for MP in Stroud in the next election. loving stupid idea when Labour fought so hard to win it back from the Tories in 2017 and have a majority of about 600. e: 144 is 12 times 12 which used to be important in the olden days before we decided to gently caress off learning tables past 10 sebzilla fucked around with this message at 15:23 on Sep 9, 2019 |

I'm curious about the Brexit party's impact. They won't stand in the 28 seats of the ultra-brexiteer tories, but does anyone have any info about those seats? All solidly leave seats I'm assuming? They also will stand aside for any MP who comes out against any Brexit deal, which is a bit more radical than Boris' stated intention to get a deal, so tough to imagine many going for it. How many Tory MPs are committed to doing no deal? I realise I could look this all up myself but I'm too lazy tbh

What, stand down as speaker? Or just renounce his membership? I really cannot understand him standing down as speaker when he's got a chance to stand up to the government, this is literally what he's been all about for the last several years.

There we go - he will resign at the end of October 31st, unless an early election is called.

He's standing down on the 31st, or tonight if they vote for a GE today.

Stopping "new MPs" being unduly influenced is a good shout tbh. The current crowd won't back a Johnson candidate. After an election who the gently caress knows?

Be interesting to see if the new speaker is a real toadie for one party or another or if we get another promoter of backbenchers.

I'll be really sad to see bercow go tbh, he's been a really good speaker.

As an American I don't think I can imagine a different speaker for you guys. He seems to have been born for the role. Maybe the next speaker can just use a soundboard of him.

That image of the opposition giving Bercow a standing ovation while the Tories are sat, barely even clapping, speaks volumes.

painted into a coroner posted:If Johnson wins the election somehow he will make JRM the Speaker for maximum hellworld. Bercow choosing to step down on the 31st October means his successor will be chosen by this parliament, rather than after an election. It's intentional, because he thinks this parliament will be more likely to pick an impartial candidate.

The commons only barely works because of bercow. We're hosed. It also shows how stupid parliament is that it basically only works with a very particular kind of weirdo as speaker.
