But seriously, the incompetence of the Trump White House to have anyone in it for longer than about a year is probably the crowning triumph of the Trump administration; there's no way he's going to invade somewhere if he constantly fires his invasion planning team. I guess we'll see who eventually replaces Bolton, but it'd be hard to get worse than him and I'd guess this should lower tensions to some extent with Iran etc.

I'm trying to stick to the region, but pulling out of the Paris Agreement on global warming makes meaningful action there less likely too, and there aren't many regions of the world more vulnerable to rising temperatures than the Middle East.
