Maybe the Scandinavians that moved in and controlled large parts of Scotland and England during the Viking age here in Denmark shouldn't have let you folks get back control over your country, given how poorly you're handling it? One thing that's come out of this is that the conventions of and noblesse obligee that have protected the aristos for so long are being shat out of the window by de Pfeffel, Osborne and the like. And the queen is maybe now realising that just because someone is rich, doesn't mean they can be trusted. Which sets up another interesting division in the upper classes, between the lazy 'we will always be rich so money has become meaningless' class of the nobility, and the sociopathic aspirational types who want to own all of the money so that they can wear it as a hat. I mean from our perspective they should probably all be asset stripped and guillotined, but it just makes me wonder if the wigs at the top are going to finally loving realise.

Brown's actually a fascinating character. He was big into activism as a student (to the point his girlfriend apparently dumped him because he was constantly ditching her for protests and talked about nothing but politics lol) and wrote some good stuff on poverty as an academic. Generally seemed a good egg, a proper socialist, and someone who really cared. I really want to know what snapped in him to make him drink the new labour kool-aid so hard (of course lots of new labour figures were ex-members of various far left groups... which is also interesting). I'll always stick by the argument that he was a much better person than Blair, if a pretty bad leader

I think it's a mistake to frame this as a "good old Queen was misled by devious advisors" thing. The British monarch is hemmed in by democratic principles into this weird position of an automaton where if Boris brings her a piece of paper she has to sign it or she triggers an instant political and legal crisis. It just shows why her having that power in the first place is ridiculous and pointless. This is also why I find the "one weird trick to make Boris quit: she lied to the Queen" idea preposterous as it implies that the PM needs to explain himself to the Queen. The PM needs a check on his power but it shouldn't and mustn't be the loving Queen. Underrated aspect here is also that the Queen is almost certainly fine with Brexit and so has zero reason or motivation to trigger a constitutional crisis and risk her position to keep the UK in the EU.

Before I once again vanish, does anyone know any way of cooking with cooking with Soy that can either be frozen or stored for a while? Also, does anyone know any meat alternatives that I can use to make Spag bol that I can freeze? Or any good meatless dishes in general. I am trying to, if not go veggie, then have 1 week a month where I don't have meat.

For beef: Seitan makes a good substitute but is very pricy. TVP (Textured vegetable protein) is good in place of mince despite the sterile sounding name. Chicken: quorn, basically Soy burgers/hot dogs are fine. The key to getting veggie cooking right is making sure you have an alternative source of umami. Soy sauce is good for this (even in non Asian dishes) and I found that mixing in some marmite worked (It sounds bad I know). MSG is magic umami powder and is also a good shout.

I find it easier to go meat free a couple of days a week than I would remembering a whole week out of a month. Quorn mince is not horrible as a substitute in a bolognese, but I get a lot of mileage out of mushrooms in a stir fry or fried rice and chickpeas and lentils for curries if you're after a simple meal to cook once or twice a week.

I'm a huge fan of mixed bean chili because it's so meaty and flavorsome • 30ml olive oil • 150g onion (diced) • 20ml garlic purée • 100g red pepper (diced) • 100g green pepper (diced) • to taste chilli powder • 30ml tomato purée • to taste cumin, paprika • 400g chopped tomatoes • 400g mixed beans • 4g vegetable stock powder • 1 bay leaf • to taste salt, pepper 1. Heat oil in a large saucepan 2. Add onion, garlic, peppers, and chilli powder 3. Fry for 5m or until soft 4. Stir in the tomato purée, cumin, and paprika 5. Heat through 6. Add the chopped tomatoes, beans, stock, bay leaf 7. Season with salt and pepper 8. Bring to boil, then simmer for 30m Serve with crusty bread

Beans and veg usually freeze OK though they tend to go a bit mushy due to crystal formation in the flesh. Depends how cold you get your freezer too. Also if you're reheating I generally recommend doing it on the stovetop because the microwave makes things foisty and a little bit of maiilard reaction helps to make reheated food taste less reheated Or pair it with something fresh like pasta or, as noted, bread.
