Did we know this was a thing? https://www.thetvdb.com/series/superman-red-son

Has anyone seen it?

quote:

Superman Red Son: Motion Comics bring the pages of Mark Millar's Eisner-Award-nominated comic book series that re-imagined the iconic American superhero as a communist champion. The story begins like the original Superman, with baby Superman traveling through space in a rocket ship and landing on Earth. However, instead of landing in rural Kansas and being raised to believe in American values, his rocket ship crashes into a Ukrainian farm. The young hero grows up in Russia and becomes the champion of the common worker, fighting on the side of socialism during Stalin's reign. What begins as one small shift in trajectory results in massive changes for the world, as the most powerful man alive no longer belongs to the United States of America. As time passes, Superman becomes more involved in Russia's politics, using his reputation to influence international governments and promote the expansion of communist values. In Superman Red Son: Motion Comics, this inventive and celebrated story is animated and narrated in 12 parts.

THUNDERDOME LOSER 2021
It's about time I told the worst story in my life but it's on topic and it's not something that bothers me on the day to day so I'll front load this with "it's hosed but I'm okay"

When I was a child I had what a therapist would call frequent "sexual contact" with a distant family member my own age. I was too young to understand, but so were they. I now feel disgusted whenever I'm with another person and sometimes I'm haunted by wondering where this person learned the acts they carried out with me. I struggle to have sex if I'm not wasted, and I've never really trusted or felt comfortable with anyone. I want to love someone but I'm kind of a minefield.

I avoided the incel poo poo by being more hosed up than that. But I'm also still me. I draw and I try to excercise and I ride motorbikes. There's more to life than the really messy place. It's hosed but I'm okay. I'm focusing on getting myself materially stable in a job and in a flat. Maybe I could afford some professional help then and work towards healthy romantic interests or possibly just have a fulfilled life in other areas.

There's a lot of words for this poo poo like victim or survivor but I don't think this is who I am. I don't see myself as one of those. To me it's just a place I passed through and a kind of mental injury I have, but not something I want people to think of me as. It's why I haven't brought it up before.

Nonetheless I do worry about where people learn their sexual conduct. If we don't go loud about how to be healthy in our relationships, it could be all too late for someone to learn before they get a bad idea and hurt someone else, or worse, spread that idea to others and lodge the abuse into perpetuity. As much as I can understand the temptation to laugh at these incel losers, a part of me thinks they have been failed somewhere or at the very least it's a chance to bring up something you already know. Life's diverse circumstances can provide all the right preconditions in some place to make someone vulnerable to an idea such that, ultimately, in at least one case, the spread of abuse can be down to a simple spread of information. In English, I wouldn't have been hurt if either he didn't know what to do, or if he had known better. Alas life's circumstances threaded that needle

Being in that state of thinking that I'm not interesting to anyone is something I'm definitely guilty of because for most of school I was bullied, but I'm at a point in my life where, while I've previously dated people - because to a degree I at least got somewhat over thinking I was undesirable - so while I still have lascivious thoughts about beautiful/handsome people or people who I'm attracted to on a more personal level, those thoughts don't control my actions - and I haven't really had a need for a physical relationship in quite a long time.
It just sort of worked out that way, I guess.

I do wonder if society has changed, though - is it still the way of things that it's more common for men to express an interest in women, or have women started expressing a more clear interest in men? Because it sometimes seems that way to me, and it's great if it is changing - but it might just be that I'm in some sort of a bubble because of the people I talk to, and because I don't have much recent experience.

I think that society in general has removed the "old" way for men to show their interest in women (read: harassment) from the social fabric, but the media hasn't really showed anything new in it's place as cohesive messsge yet, so many men are understandably confused what they "should" be doing. Look at recent teen movies and tv shows and how they depict relationships - they mostly skip over the "asking each other out" stage these days. And while tindee and online dating may exsist it is an utter soul crushing nightmare for men to use, and the other typical way people get into relationships ( meeting friends of friends ) still suffers this problem.

They shouldn't, but the evidence suggests they super do. Humans are dumb apes who emulate what we see and think its normal. Showing healthy stuff like that couldn't hurt, though I don't know that it's entirely absent, you see media with people just going "Hey want to get a coffee?" What I would actually like to see more of is rejections handled well. If she says no to your offer of a date or a drink then accept it, wish her a good day/night out, and move on.

I've had that once (or maybe 1½ times), fortunately from compression of the canal probably resulting from an inflammation rather than whatever causes people to get it repeatedly because gently caress that and my sympathies to Dead Goon.

I don't think it compares to bad headaches/migraines either better or worse because it's a different type of pain, like if you took everything that a major sensory nerve is designed to carry (this is burning, this is freezing, this is pressure, this is slicing, this is a live electrical cable) and applied them to the side of your face repeatedly with a brick in interesting patterns and also painkillers don't work unless they're strong enough to just send you to sleep.

Apparently low doses of dissociatives are showing promise in amelioration but tbh I'd understand people using that internet drug that warp zones you to the emergency room without any persistence of memory.

What's the cause of that? Just that the liberal order has collapsed in the wake of austerity and the right isn't afraid to blame brown people while the center spends more time attacking the left than coming up with solutions?

Re: Cameron's Killing Machine.

If you believe the book Why We Get The Wrong Politicians, the disastrous NHS redesign was down to Andrew Lansley laying out a new masterplan pretty much in private, and then rolling it out in legislation with very little consultation with the rest of Cabinet. Cameron should have known about it but was a consummate delegator who trusted Lansley as the "expert" on health matters.

Lansley was fired as Health Secretary in 2012.

Austerity didn't help things either, although in a sense the austerity rhetoric is a similar comedy of errors: economics papers around 2008-9 were touting cuts to government spending as a possible solution to the Great Recession and its problems. For Cameron's Conservatives, this One Bright Idea To Fix Economics was great politically and seemed like it might work pragmatically. (Spoilers : current consensus is that the original macroeconomics papers were crap). By the time everyone realised austerity was a failed project the Tories were so committed to it that it was nigh impossible to turn the ship around: this is why you keep seeing consecutive Tory Prime Ministers trying to reverse austerity to some degree and failing.

Council service cuts are a function of several things : Cameron cut the local government subsidy (introduced by Thatcher!) and replaced it by giving councils more power to set their own tax rates. This was a really dumb idea because it means that rich areas like Westminster are overflowing with cash while poorer areas are forced to either make cuts to services or massively hike tax rates to survive. Coupled with Thatcher-era restrictions on council borrowing, this makes poorer councils basically unable to function financially.

To what extent this was all part of a Tory masterplan and to what extent it was farce or Cameron being a useful idiot for disaster capitalism is difficult to determine, but Osborne, as the architect of the fiscal tightening, deserves as much if not more hate directed at him than Cameron.

The Coalition seems in retrospect like A Series Of Very Smart Ideas which appealed to a new, supposedly innovative right wing administration, while actually being disastrous for normal people.

E: Ironically if they'd stuck to the byline of traditional / Burkean Conservativism (if it ain't broke don't fix it) 90% of the harm of the Coalition would have been avoided.
