i don't know what to do with any of this information. is it improving my life in any way to know for a cold fact that there is a giant invisible boot on my neck at all times, and that boot is attached to a leg attached to a waist attached to a penis that is being blown by a 13 year old Slovenian girl or loving a paperless busboy in the rear end? no, but gently caress, it still seems like it's extremely important

Not the best example, since Mussolini went on a very public campaign against the Mafia well before it achieved that kind of influence (which, funnily enough, did a lot to boost their power in America as mafiosi fled the fascists). Their existence and growth as political power-players were quite well-known despite their attempts at secrecy - it was just the precise extent of their influence that was sometimes mysterious.
