SCOTUS might actually not back him on it either since Gorsuch has been revealed to be a crazy anti-government libertarian in his rulings, he's already broken ranks with the conservatives multiple times because strong central government bad. I'm sure it annoys cop apologist Alito to no end. That said you dont even need SCOTUS to back California, just for it to get tied up in court long enough for a Dem presidency to come in and drop the suit.

I wonder if my dad still has the full-size VHS tape from the camcorder from when we went. We were right the gently caress next to the tanker truck, if I remember correctly. Made a big impression on young me. As did seeing a game in Candlestick in 1990 or 1991, during which I was terrified another earthquake would happen.

Candlestick stayed in one piece and the thousands inside had at most minor injuries. That’s the only good thing that can be said about it as a baseball venue.

Uber/Lyft/Doordash/etc will file a legal challenge and get a preliminary injunction halting the law. Meanwhile they'll work the other angle of trying to get a ballot proposition going and trot out the full on PR salvo about big government stifling innovation and hating all these working class drivers whose livelihoods depend on the gig economy. Even if that fails and the 9th Circuit inevitably doesn't buy any of Uber's bullshit and sides with California, it'll go to SCOTUS who will in a 5-4 decision agree that yes, saying Uber can't classify their workers as independent contractors even though they perform the key role of the business is a violation of Uber's First Amendment Rights, and the law will be dead. Not to get too but the bill probably isn't going anywhere unless the Dems pull an upset of upsets in 2020 and not only control all three chambers, but also have the stones to upset the current ideological paradigm of SCOTUS.

I hope you all are right, I really do. My roommate just had to start doing Door Dash again because gently caress the non-STEM job market forever, and the benefits he'd see from being an actual employee with benefits would be tangibly staggering. Just feels like there's some fuckery around the corner to try and halt or distort the law. I hope if nothing else Dem state law makers can hold the high ground and continue to refuse the tech lobbies that tried to unsuccessfully get amendments added that would have watered down AB 5, and have apparently already started trying to work law makers to get somebody to sponsor a bill exempting Uber/Lyft/etc when the next session starts in January.

While I hear where coming from, and Uber in particular is absolutely insane when it comes to ignoring laws(remember that time they hacked the phones of politicians? j/k they totally got away with that and nobody remembers), they are entirely supported by a pool of bored VC money that is hoping they become the amazon of taxi services and it's not remotely going to be a sustainable business model unless they jack their prices up to a level that's more or less similar to taxis, whereas Amazon is mostly a real-world logistics system selling actual goods.

Wow Harris isn't even doing well here? I heard she was losing momentum after she got 15 minutes of spotlight for calling out Biden, but drat. Not that I'm shedding any tears mind you, ACAB. Feels like California going with Bernie or Warren early in the primary would be huge.

It would be. Kamala, Pete, Beto, and Booker are most likely dead. The only reason Biden is competitive at all is because he's Obama's Guy and low-information think he has "electability" and dumbshit neoliberal voters support his actual trash policies.

I like Warren ok and she's done some good. She's certainly better than a snake like Harris, a blathering corporate stooge like Biden, or a blando nothing like Pete. My biggest thing is she doesn't seem to have good political instincts, she hasn't agreed to reject corporate money in the general (on account that it would "hamstring" her), and also all the Pod Save America guys love her....those guys are 100% cult-of-meritocracy neolibs at heart so you have to wonder what's going on there. Basically Warren is a good second-string quarterback at a time where we need an All-Star Hall of Famer.
