I would like to also encourage everyone who was participating or cheering for the climate strikes today to join me in committing "Tree Banditry"! It's where you go out in the middle of the night when no one is about and plant trees! It's one of the most effective things anyone as an individual can do to help with climate change and it's fun too. You don't need any special equipment or anything, just a trowel and bottle of water. Reforest the world! I get my trees from here: https://shop.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees I've planted about thirty five trees around my town (Coleraine, NI) so far.

Long verges, gaps in hedgerows. You can plant them in places where the grass does get mowed regularly too if you put down a stake with them. Make it obvious they're there and no is going to go run them over, especially if you make it look like they were planted there by a legitimate authority. If you don't half rear end it, plant a few in a neat row that are all tied to stakes at one end of a public green or whatever most people are just going to assume the council did it you know? Especially if it's somewhere that other trees are already growing nearby.

The climate strikes today were good. Spare a thought for the child dropped off right outside school and forced to be a scab from a young age. This weeks been poo poo and weird for a lot of people I know. Solar flares, autumn equinox, whatever the reason at least this dumb week is over. TACD posted:Spend more time with the second group. Ta (& Guavanaut & Coffeetable) - I want to be better, and though I might like the cosiness of junk food and rubbish films, it doesn't really make me any better. I'll still hang around with my older friends as I can't just turn friendship on or off, and we've had some good conversations about trans rights, pornography and taxes (separately) where I feel I've been that 'good' friend to them - but I'll make more of an effort to hang around with newer pals and get into that rhythm.

A lot of people feel like outsiders. Do you think that it's something that is an inevitable part of how atomised late capitalism is, or do you think we are just getting stranger as time goes on?

I think people who are hyper competitive are very susceptible to becoming addicted to anything due to their dopamine reward cycle being skewed towards getting quick hits.

Gum posted:Just spitballing but I feel like someone who believes in the indomitable power of their own will would be incredibly vulnerable to addiction yeah, also benzos are particularly bad that way. when you've used them for a while and begin to worry, you can find stuff to reassure yourself very easily. they're not very toxic--basically impossible to lethally overdose by themselves. long term use does come with serious mental damage, but you won't notice much since the onset's so slow and gradual. resistance builds quickly, but dependence builds slower, so you won't realize you're hooked before you've had lots of opportunities to convince yourself you're not. also when you quit them you're stuck with the abstinence for months, which sucks immensely. it took me about half a year before i felt back to normal-ish however, i'm just some random internet idiot, i'm not some wanker writing self-help books about how to attain the happiness i'm obviously incapable of feeling myself and confidently belting out how everyone else is doing it wrong on social media jesus

The sound proofing between flats is surprisingly good too - literally only hear the neighbours kids when one of them has decided to let everyone know they're having a bad day (has happened 2 or 3 times in two years). However you do know when anyone in the building is running the spin cycle on their washing machine.
