I still don't know whether labour should do a VONC because they still need to get the brexit extension sorted if we're to avoid crashing out in the interim, and Boris being forced to extend is the big thing that's supposed to sink his electoral chances.

Johnson absolutely has to be made to go cap in hand begging for the extension, or to then be brought up before the courts because whatever 'secret plan' Cummings came up with to get out of it is then stared at in shock by anyone who isn't an idiot and roundly dismissed.

And then we can have a GE.

I was away this weekend so missed a bunch of the Labour conference thing that still seems a bit small potatoes, but glad this has caressed it out of the public view.

I reckon Labour will win next GE, last couple of Tory candidates gave the impression of an actual politician, whilst Boris has not only shat the bed but is accidentally streaming it on Facebook live sort of situation.

If Corbyn calls a successful VONC on Johnson then the issue is that he is simply giving Johnson the election that he wants. If Corbyn does call a VONC it needs to be backed up with a cross party plan to install a temporary unity government that will then go ahead and get the Brexit extension from the EU and then call a general election. That's the safe plan. The dangerous plan is to resist calling a VONC until Johnson himself is forced to get the extension as that will damage his chances of getting back into power. If Johnson break acts unlawfully again however and refuses to ask for an extension that could be very problematic with the short time scales in mind, it could even force parliament to revoke article 50 altogether as the only way of avoiding no deal brexit.

The Queen has got more inside knowledge of British politics than anyone alive, and it is safe to assume that she knew exactly what he was up to when he was requesting this prorogation. She may feel that the royal prerogative has been abused (it has). But that does not necessarily mean that she feels personally misled.

People so desperately want to believe that the queen is a shrewd political operator.

It's the most wonderful time of the year

quote:

Boris Johnson has been given 14 days to provide details about his relationship with an American businesswoman, following allegations he failed to declare a potential conflict of interest while he was mayor of London.

The demands are made in a letter asking the prime minister to provide information about his "personal, social and professional" contact with Jennifer Arcuri.

It also asks Mr Johnson to explain how the relationship was "disclosed and taken into account" to the Greater London Assembly.

The letter, written by chair of the London Assembly oversight committee, Len Duvall, follows allegations in the Sunday Times about Mr Johnson and Ms Arcuri.

Boris announced it to the press at the same time as asking the queen, specifically to limit any chance of her going 'wait a minute' even off the record or express any concerns.

His next meeting with her though, he's definitely getting the 4th best china, and no biscuits!

The queen is a role, not a person. It happens to currently be occupied by an old lady called elizabeth, but whatever opinions that old lady has are irrelevant.

My prediction: Labour will table a VONC, the Lib Dems, CUKTIG & enough Labour MPs will vote against because what they really want is to turn this back away from Boris to how useless Jeremy Corbyn is so they can get rid of him and make the Labour Party safe once again for careerists liberals like themselves.

Outside bet, VONC passes, Boris gets alliance with the Brexit Party & end up not having their vote split, enough liberal Labour voters peel off to the Lib Dems that Labour are badly damage & end up with a result on par or worse than 2015.

Shadow cabinet office minister Jon Trickett has said Labour is “not prepared” to have a general election on Boris Johnson’s terms, adding: “we no longer trust this man."

Mr Trickett said that "detailed complicated questions [about Brexit]" would now be asked after MPs return to the Commons.
