I saw that helicopter in Rio last month in Ipanema, they did some casual low passes along the full width of the beach. They were not strafing the public yet.

Eaaasy now. On of the court ministers suspended the session until next week. Plenty of time for the thug machine to engage, media to boost fake outrage, generals to pipe in. Hell, libertarian-fascist agitator group Vem Pra Rua just released the address and phone numbers of the two women justices so they can be harrassed and threatened directly. I give it 90% odds they empty this decision of any meaning by monday.

Oh, are we not talking about Janot here? So, just in case you gringos are still around, Rodrigo Janot, one of the justices of the Supreme Court, said that he once walked into court armed and intending to kill Gilmar Mendes, also a justice, because he verbally attacked his daughter, then kill himself. However, he chickened out and didn't go thru with it. Now, he's about to release a book and Gilmar Mendes is one of the guys pushing for Lava-Jato to be overturned, this sounds very shitthathappened.txt, but again, A JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT CONFESSED HE PREMEDITATED MURDER because Brazil is currently a loving hellscape. edit: Janot is not a Justice, I'm just sleep deprived, he was Prosecutor-General.

so has Moro officially outlived his usefulness or are the Brazilian judges actually showing some semblance of justice?

Sephyr posted:Eaaasy now. As pessimistic as I am, it seems like lava-jato seriously got some cracks lately. The fact that a bunch of odd people (Temer, Aloysio Nunes) are now acknowledging that Dilma's impeachment was a soft coup is pretty significant. Bolsonaro's popularity is slowly (but steadily) dropping. It's far from an ideal scenario but it's a first sign in a long time that feels like there's some space for things to get better. (also considering the current outlook on trump, it would be a pretty significant hit on Bolsonaro I feel)

get that OUT of my face posted:so has Moro officially outlived his usefulness or are the Brazilian judges actually showing some semblance of justice? They (and the media) are currently trying to square the circle. They need to preserve what he achieved (Lula in jail, PT seen as a criminal organization) while ALSO trying to put the genie back in the bottle regarding crazy judges/prosecutors legislating from the bench and spreading chaos in the system. The moment Moro quits the governmentand signs up with PSDB, though, it'll all be forgiven and forgotten. He's still a strong name for the next election, which is why Bozo's kids are always trying to compromise or unseat him.

I think what's happening is what I saw as the probable case scenario for a Bolsonaro presidency: a pretty unpopular government that unfortunately still has enough power to push anti-worker and anti-minority reforms (although not as quickly as they might hope) despite it, and one that allows the same old neolibs that have dominated the media discourse to position themselves as the "best alternative" in the upcoming elections. Everyone is trying to distance themselves from Bolsonaro, and I kinda feel like lightning ain't gonna strike twice with him. Unfortunately what that means is that NOVO or some other neolib alternative is probably gonna end up benefitting from all of this instead of the left, so I can't be all that hopeful. Hell, PSDB and PDT were already pushing the "united front against Bolsonaro" narrative to make PSOL and PT look unreasonable, in a classic centrist maneuver.

Yup. They'll test the waters soon enough, floating names and see what direction works. Luciano Huck, Tábata Amaral, Bruno Covas, Doria or some yet-to-appear nobody. They were denied their smiling, congenial neoliberal murderer when Aecio went down in flames but they never give up. That said, I don't think they will get it. Something -did- change in the last few years, and the reactionary faction is no longer just a bloc they could easily appease by pointing at the Evil Left. A good 30% of Brazil now things that Globo, PSDB and all of their college-educated, cosmopolitan neoliberal ilk ARE the Evil Left. Didn't they sing the praises of globalization back in the 90s? Didn't they let the hated PT come to power? Don't they spend time in godless socialist hellholes like France and Germany? There's a reason bozominions say their messiah saved Brazil from 30 years of communism, not just 14. The powers that be spent the last 10+ years making being the biggest PT-hater the most valued trait in any politician, pundit or celebrity. It'll take at least as long for the tail to stop wagging the dog.
