I see this is different from what was being said 2 years ago which was that "sea ice isn't shrinking, it's growing" So now it's shrinking but "it isn't that bad" soon to be followed up with "and people aren't causing it"

I think it started with a few radio stations Taking a Stand for Are Troops and announcing they would no longer be playing their music, and it snowballed from there with the help of talk radio. It was this. It was back during when America lost its collective mind and wanted revenge for 9/11 even if it was aimed at the wrong country/people. Support for the Iraq invasion was insanely high in 2003 or so and anyone who even dared to say "umm....wait. What did Iraq have to do with 9/11 and why are we invading them" was viewed as a terrorist sympathizer who hated America and anyone who thought it was a dumb idea was told to move to France and all sorts of dumb poo poo. Songs like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6yLQRF-cEU summed up the collective mindset. Toby Kieth wrote this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruNrdmjcNTc both contain some of the dumbest lyrics you'd (n)ever want to hear. Congress actually changed the name of fried potatoes in the cafeteria from french fries to freedom fries. It basically went from a horrific and shocking terrorist attack on American soil that briefly had us all sort of on the same page and vaguely united for about 5 days to a WWE story line where everyone wanted to kill The Iron Sheik. The Dixie Chicks basically had the audacity to be women with brains that performed country songs and didn't like GWB.

I wonder if this is freelance Ukraine narrative building or if someone threw old chalkboard Beck a line to pull him out of obscurity? Pretty clear that his role is to be one more mouth piece seeding the idea that "Ukraine = Biden bad" to inoculate the base against anything in that realm, just curious if he's picking up on it as a part of the bigger ecosphere and running with it or if he's being fed the party line in advance.

But Alex Jones has just kept going and stoking the flames. I'm watching this most recent AJ output and he unironically cites a Natural News article regarding Marines being activated for work within the US (clearly within the purview of naturalnews.com, that, but they've got plenty of front page articles in the right wingnut spectrum) there are people who believe the things he says and Beck never appealed as much to the truly dangerous.

But he really fell over on his 9/12 project, thinking it would take off and become a new Tea Party. Beck gained a lot of boomer viewers during the Tea Party, they liked him dressing up in 1770s cosplay and linking reverse space vampires to Hilary on chalkboards. But the 9/12 project flopped, and he killed off half his boomers with the scammy Goldline ads and personal recommendations to invest in gold coins that will instantly lose 30% of their worth. Alex has been crazy from the start, no one listened to crazy back then. But then Obama made the nuts think everything was a conspiracy, so they watched and that let him say wilder and wilder things. Alex is only toning it down these days as he got sued for it and has to maintain a low profile to dodge that if possible. If he gets away with it, I am sure he will be back to full on moon crazy to scam the nuts into buying soy based brain juices.

The local conservative talk radio station where I live still has Glenn Beck on during the morning commute hours, so I've loosely followed his trajectory over the past few years. He definitely comes across as a former big deal in desperate search for a new audience. He flips between "Aw-shucks sweater-wearing Reasonable Conservative", "Politically incorrect shock jock", "Cool youth pastor that doesn't think that gay marriage is a big deal", and "Weeping preacher begging America to repent and turn to Christ over gay marriage" every couple of weeks. Despite his tepid dislike of Trump, he's trying to appeal to demographics that went all-in on Trump and haven't looked back. I mean, there was that time a year or two ago where he said "Well, a progressive said a mean thing about me, so I'm on the Trump Train now, baby! Look at me wearing this MAGA hat! Woaaaah! Lock her up, build that wall, ha ha!" but that didn't last long either. It's sad, really.

Was just arguing with an acquaintance about the El Paso shooter because I hate life and also myself. It's honestly fascinating just how much we live in nearly completely different realities sometimes. The shooter was a leftist because he wanted UBI and identified the financial sector as a thing that's loving working Americans. The fact that his solution was driving the immigrants out and killing as many non whites as he personally could has no bearing on this because racism isn't fundamentally right wing because Democrats founded the KKK. Also it was the nationalist SOCIALIST party. I pointed out how only one party right now is stoking anti-immigtant rhetoric but at best to him that's secondary to the shooter's economic policy. It's all just so loving weird and frustrating. Like if yeah the dude had gone and blown up a bank instead he'd be a left wing terrorist but weirdly enough that isn't what he did at all On some level I actually do find it really interesting because I don't engage with a whole lot of right wing rhetoric in real life so having to fight against concentrated doses of it is surreal.
