Even if she did have a gun, the cop didn't announce himself at all and peeked through a window. If I'm sitting on my couch with my gun on my lap and heard someone in my backyard at 2:00am and I shoot and kill him, isn't that the stand your ground law?

Depends. Is the person you shot a cop and are you a minority? It's sad that this would matter but it's the world we live in. I would 100% say you were protecting your home from an intruder.

They're just muddying the waters, trying to sow shadows of doubts and what not. Giving the Blue Lives Matter crowd cover.

I say he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt because it's Texas, and I would assume 99% of people have a gun in their house specifically for defending themselves during a break in. I can't imagine what police training is like to make an officer that scared at checking houses that he shoots at the first visible human inside.

It's not a training problem :ssh:

I'm pretty sure stand your ground is just a buzzword and the actual specifics vary wildly from state to state. That said you can potentially have a very hard time proving that you thought someone was a threat to your life just because you saw a shape outside.

Also how white are you and how chudly is law enforcement in your area :v:

Could you also potentially have a very hard time proving that you thought someone was a threat to your life just because you saw a shape inside?

Nah, it probably actually happened because she was known to carry a gun in her purse for protection and somebody was in her backyard without having announced themselves as a police officer at 2am. They have said they found a gun since this first happened. The mayor and police chief both said yesterday that she had every right to have a gun and did nothing wrong because they did not announce themselves as police.

Or maybe it didn't happen and you are right. Either way the narrative is going to be that the cop saw a gun before he could announce himself and immediately shot her because she pointed it at him through the window and he was in fear for his life. It shouldn't matter because he shouldn't have been in the backyard and he should have announced himself, but I can see a Ft. Worth jury declining to convict for murder in favor of manslaughter or something.

Extremely. I'm assuming you could at least try to pull the excuse of "Well it's 2am why the gently caress -else- would someone be creeping in my window like that?" if you blasted someone you could barely see in your yard at night. But there's zero reason to assume that sort of thing for someone -outside- looking -in-.

Considering he's a cop no. She was clearly coming right for him as per this extremely non-coerced confession from an extremely unafraid 8 year old child who is under no duress at all.

e: my assumption is the "she had a gun" is some post-murder bullshit they came up with after they found her CCL

I told you guys that southern Brazoria County crowd down in Angleton have serious delusions of grandeur. Bonnen and his lackeys are living right down to their reputation.

The amazing part is, in spite of the fact that he basically said gently caress all of Texas by naming both cities and counties, a good chunk of the state will say, "That's right right there! You show them!" without thinking it through.

Yea it’s seems weird looking back. Perry’s corruption with the Trans Texas corridor and the hpv vaccine was always kinda blunted by him randomly doing good things like supporting in state tuition at state schools for undocumented immigrants (depending on how you want to assign credit for that and his other good things) and then there were all the rumors of what he did in his free time.

Now he’s accused of illegally selling nuclear weapon technologies to the Saudis and helping Trump engage in corruption in Ukraine.

Perry and W have just stayed governor

As someone just barely following it, I'd assume the best choice is Sylvester Turner. Voting for anyone polling under Buzbee is dangerous as he is a terrible choice.
