Even if she did have a gun, the cop didn't announce himself at all and peeked through a window. If I'm sitting on my couch with my gun on my lap and heard someone in my backyard at 2:00am and I shoot and kill him, isn't that the stand your ground law?

Depends. Is the person you shot a cop and are you a minority? It's sad that this would matter but it's the world we live in. I would 100% say you were protecting your home from an intruder.

It's not a training problem RisqueBarber posted:Even if she did have a gun, the cop didn't announce himself at all and peeked through a window. I'm pretty sure stand your ground is just a buzzword and the actual specifics vary wildly from state to state. That said you can potentially have a very hard time proving that you thought someone was a threat to your life just because you saw a shape outside. Also how white are you and how chudly is law enforcement in your area Marxalot fucked around with this message at 17:28 on Oct 16, 2019 |

zoux posted:No, that's just what the cops got the kid to say Nah, it probably actually happened because she was known to carry a gun in her purse for protection and somebody was in her backyard without having announced themselves as a police officer at 2am. They have said they found a gun since this first happened. The mayor and police chief both said yesterday that she had every right to have a gun and did nothing wrong because they did not announce themselves as police. Or maybe it didn't happen and you are right. Either way the narrative is going to be that the cop saw a gun before he could announce himself and immediately shot her because she pointed it at him through the window and he was in fear for his life. It shouldn't matter because he shouldn't have been in the backyard and he should have announced himself, but I can see a Ft. Worth jury declining to convict for murder in favor of manslaughter or something.

I told you guys that southern Brazoria County crowd down in Angleton have serious delusions of grandeur. Bonnen and his lackeys are living right down to their reputation. The amazing part is, in spite of the fact that he basically said gently caress all of Texas by naming both cities and counties, a good chunk of the state will say, "That's right right there! You show them!" without thinking it through.

I heard secondhand that they already warn folks in these areas to move their camps during clean-up processes so they don't lose their belongings. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/austin-trying-to-find-the-best-way-to-clean-up-homeless-camps/

Perry’s corruption with the Trans Texas corridor and the hpv vaccine was always kinda blunted by him randomly doing good things like supporting in state tuition at state schools for undocumented immigrants (depending on how you want to assign credit for that and his other good things) and then there were all the rumors of what he did in his free time. Now he’s accused of illegally selling nuclear weapon technologies to the Saudis and helping Trump engage in corruption in Ukraine. Perry and W have just stayed governor
