There’s always SOME herb in the voter guide who utterly wastes it and is always “I’ll walk in Day 1 and shut down this office!!!”

It’s like 9/10 times a Libertarian Party Man, but I can’t act surprised that it’s the remnant of the NYC GOP now.

It makes me wonder who they’re going to try to run for mayor next time. Malliotakis whiffed hard, and no one knows Ulrich outside his council district. Another Joe Lhota shithead businessman type? Lhota himself, with a Cuomo endorsement?

aren't all weed vapes technically black market? it's not legal in NY (yet) and even if it were, being on Schedule 1 prevents proper regulation

yeah but there are legit ones smuggled in and then there are counterfeit ones that are filled with trash.

the brand getting people sick, dank vapes iirc, isnt a brand, but an official looking box/cartridge you can buy cheap and fill with whatever you want to sell. its a wild west situation unless you trust your dealer when he says his carts are the real thing brought in from colorado etc

You can get ones in MA pretty easy.

I went through the process of getting it legally (sciatic nerve issues), turns out all you need is a piss test, a doctor who's free with it, and money. I decided not to because of the cost, which is outrageous.

NY Post ramping up opposition to the no cash bail law, using the latest serial killer as an example

quote:

Santos, accused of killing four other homeless men, had been arrested over a dozen times, including for assault and fare evasion. Yet two breaks left him free to roam.

In a turnstile-jumping case, a Brooklyn judge sent him to a supervised-release program — which Santos skipped out on. Then the Bronx Freedom Fund bailed him out on groping charges (though his other open warrants should’ve left him ineligible).

After Santos skipped another court date, an arrest warrant was issued, but never served.

Supervised release programs provide mental health counseling, drug treatment and other services that might well be appropriate in such cases — if they came with real teeth to ensure compliance.

But the system is too swamped to use even the powers it has to keep disturbed repeat offenders off the streets. And the Legislature has guaranteed that it’ll get worse come Jan. 1.

That’s when the new “no bail” law kicks in, removing judges’ discretion to remand defendants they deem a danger to the public. Programs like the one Santos skipped out on will be expected to handle and track a flood of new clients. Not that the Legislature added any funds for those programs, nor for all the other burdens the new law imposes.

longtime house member and current chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Nita Lowey, recently announced she'll be retiring at the end of her term. in light of that, here's an interview with Mondaire Jones, who was planning a primary challenge against her but is now in an open race.

important bits: Lowey refused to fight to restore the openly discriminatory SALT deduction and actually increased funding to ICE in her tenure as chair of Appropriations. he's not declaring himself a democratic socialist but does support a $15 minimum wage, Medicare for All, and the Green New Deal

the media's double standards for de blasio and cuomo's pettiness is on full display when the latter unilaterally declares to make a statue for Mother Cabrini, supposedly the leading vote-getter in the "women who made NYC" contest, because the former decided to go with someone else. with de blasio there is much gnashing of teeth, with cuomo there's an ironclad belief that this is the way things have always been

also cuomo channeled his inner Cum Town character by saying the n-word and saying Italian-Americans were oppressed too like it's an apples-to-apples comparison

Is writing "Council President" instead of "for Council President" in your fliers as big a deal as the current council president in Troy making out of it? She's a disingenuous piece of poo poo, but on the other hand that does look a bit misleading, although it's hard to interpret the part that she cut off, under the picture, "I'll bring my experience and record in public service, community organizing, and advocacy to better address the needs of Troy residents", as coming from an incumbent.

Cuomo sure knows how to pick'em

quote:

Already strapped for cash thanks to the funky financing of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, the state Thruway Authority now faces an unexpectedly large bill for repairs on the three-mile stretch of I-90 — thanks to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s failed effort to use the project to blackmail the sovereign Seneca Nation.

The highway — riddled with potholes and marked with “Rough Road” signs — turns out to be “in far worse condition than we had anticipated,” Thruway exec Matt Driscoll wrote the tribe this week.

Because the state didn’t repair the road’s asphalt surface in time, the concrete base suffered major damage. The job’s now too big to handle before winter; it will put the work up for contracting come spring.

Cuomo pretended the delay was the tribe’s fault, claiming it was refusing to allow access to the stretch of highway that runs through its lands because of an ongoing dispute about payments to the state related to its casinos.

Except the Senecas had no reason to stall — they don’t think they owe the money that the gov wants, and he can’t make them pay. He was clearly the one taking I-90 hostage.

He failed — but it’s the public that’ll have to pay the price when the Thruway Authority has to raise the extra cash.

It’s only a fraction of the authority’s burden thanks to the Mario M. Cuomo (nee Tappan Zee) Bridge, but it’s another guarantee that tolls will soon soar.

I'm sure the Daily News will find a way to spin this as de Blasio's fault, somehow.

They sure know how to pick'em, part 2:

AOC rival scored discount apartment from Dem machine-run agency

quote:

Bronx City Councilman Fernando Cabrera is running for Congress as a pro-capitalist alternative to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—and a Crain's investigation suggests he has some experience mixing politics with business.

Property tax records reveal Cabrera, who announced his challenge to the democratic socialist sensation weeks ago, bought an apartment last year for the bargain basement price of $55,000 from a government office controlled by the Bronx Democratic machine.

Now, online listings show he's re-selling the unit at a 150% mark-up.
