I started following this thread again a couple months back but... It's not the same as it was pre-2016. Things have gone so sideways that what once was funny to laugh at as a sort of caricature is now bland and tasteless because that's exactly with a significant portion of main stream conservatives believe. Aside from the awful implications elsewhere, it makes me kinda sad. Like bland chicken.  Thanks for reading my E/N post about old racists on the internet.

I kinda waffle back and forth on whether or not Freep would even be religious at all if being a "churchgoer" weren't more or less mandatory in American society at the time of their adolescence and adulthood. Like, there are individual True Believers on Freep to be sure, but most of them only cite the Bible when the evil gays are involved. Most other talk about Christianity and religion on the site seems similar to the way they talk about marriage - it's something that's portrayed as absolutely mandatory, but is still kind of a miserable experience to them.

And that's why we have to kick out all the non-Christians including most Christians so that we're always in Church.

Someone used the term "Christianists" once to describe people like this. They're not actually followers of the teachings of Christ, but they do describe themselves as Christian for identity and social purposes.
