Corbyn putting the boots in is great. I can just imagine if the right of the party was still in charge they'd be holding off on it because they wouldn't be sure if they'd done the same and wouldn't want to piss off the private companies they hired to do it.

Except that "when they go lie we go high" is an explicit attack on the Conservatives for being liars, not just once or twice but habitually. It's nothing like the meek Democrat answer.

Also I took a massive risk last night and asked a cab driver if he's registered to vote, and who he's voting for. Its not about historical recognition, it's about pushing the angle the Lib Dems think they're strongest in. Johnson is a hard Brexit monster, Corbyn is a hard left Stalinist but here's sensible centrist Jo who can definitely be prime minister. Takes the focus away from policy and tries to appeal to Remain Tories who don't want the other two options.

The Tories got burnt by that last time. Their aim seems to be focusing soley on Brexit.

The Libdems, well, I mean, they're entirely reliant on the CANCEL BREXIT policy, and "Hey Swinson is a Lady person - that means she's progressive". They started to become unhinged when all the CUKTIG, Labour, and Tory rejects fled to them, artifically swelling their ranks - giving them the loving delusion that, "Hey, we're a bigger party and gained more seats...that means we''re more electorally viable again :smug:".

Also the irony of trying to establish a cult of personality because they have no loving policies, when they accuse the left of forming a COP around Corbyn.

It came up the last time this thread has this "but posting here doesn't really help anything" derail, I want to say 6 months, a year ago? Back around 2008 some lad was employed by a finance company to 'monitor threats', which included this thread. So he read it and got :marxed: instead.

Might have mixed up a fair few details there, but the outline stuck with me.

Yeah, that was me. I worked in security for a very large bank and around the time various protests started kicking off I was used to ‘gather intelligence’ on the ground and online (so joining protests and reporting on their movements etc to prepare the security response). I was already a goon, but I mentioned LF and the activism in the uk thread at a meeting and was asked to keep an eye. So I did. And ended up swinging from a disgusting Tory voting libertarian to a full-blown socialist well to the left of Corbyn as a result.

It’s one of the reasons I really didn’t post much for years, despite having been reading the UKMT and it’s LF predecessor for like a decade now.

On the one hand I’m ashamed of why I first came here; on the other I feel that if someone as stubborn as me can be converted to the exact opposite end of the political compass by a bunch of goons then there’s hope for anyone.

Oh, and I left that job in 2011 and sued the pants off then for the treatment I received and the conditions I was forced to work under, fyi.

Edit: and to fully complete the change, fired off the volunteer form for momentum straight after typing this out. Ngl, I’m terrified (mental health stuff has kept me mostly housebound for the past few years), but perhaps this’ll be what I need as well as helping gently caress the tories in whatever way.

Thanks to this thread and LF and other things I've read and involved myself in I've definitely got a lot better ways of framing social ills.

Blair was an authoritarian dick, Brown's home secretaries just banned poo poo to appease the tabloids, and Cameron and Clegg promised a bonfire of New Labour's bad ideas but instead just threw the poorest on it instead. Voted Ed in 2015 but it all felt very :effort:

I think either way I'd have been enthused by Corbyn, his opposition to Labour's anti-terrorism laws and ID cards and allowing ministers to intervene in inquests and mass retention of communications information are things I've always been on the side of, but I've been made aware of a lot of things like how public/private ownership works, economic policy, why austerity isn't just harmful but a lie, how to best express the issues behind wage labour and wealth inequality, actual hopeful paths forward rather than "well this is poo poo". and the best monster munch.

The right of the party would issue some long technocratic drivel that reads more like an actuaries report weighing up whether the lawsuits are worth the extra $4 per unit for the safety valve then ban fridges in high rises. The centre would commission a twee mural about diversity and then pay a corporate artist 50 grand to paint it over local graffiti.
