The one saving grace here is that even if that initiative wins, its an abomination that combines like 6 things and will immediately get challenged in court and probably lose again, just like his last stupid cartabs bullshit.

Seriously how the gently caress does that con artist keep being able to do this? He's been in contempt of court for like a year over his campaign's spending and ballot gathering poo poo. Not to mention just like openly stealing that office chair. If he hadn't been white they'd have jailed him for that poo poo.

It's never a sure thing especially if one part of the state isn't listening the rest of it. I think it's easy to make these things a target but something is wrong and the people of our state have spoken. As much as it disappoints me. As for Sawant, I always got the impression that she was going a little too hardcore. Like she's not my district so I can't speak for her constituents but obviously the way they voted speaks to how they feel about her. It also kinda bugged me how there appeared to be a lot of funding from outside the city. She represents her district, not her personal ideals. I guess what I'm saying is, King county is a powerhouse but without the rest of the state, it's just a single county. I can't fault the majority for wanting a change even if I disagree with it. Personally I try to understand opposing view points rather than hate on them. "Try" being the operative word. I'm not always successful. inkblottime fucked around with this message at 08:14 on Nov 6, 2019 |

Thanatosian posted:Most of Egan Orion's money comes from Amazon, which gets most of their revenue from outside the city. I was talking about "proportionally". Personally I have to wonder if Egan is that bad. I mean calling people sheep is kind of cheap. I'm sure the people in that district resent being called that. Look I don't like Amazon's influence any more than the next person but I think if you have an emotional response about the elections, it should probably be toward the 78% who didn't bother voting rather than 22% who actually did. Voting is a civic duty and if you can't make a choice someone else is going to make it for you.

I'd say good since it does multiple things again (which is how his initiatives always get struck down), and I've heard some talk that the Kelley blue book directive is prejudicial. But you never know, and also the legislature well probably cut taxes again voluntarily because something something will of the people.

Doesn't an incumbent have an advantage in the voting booth? I guess I'm saying Amazon's an easy target but the numbers don't add up if you think she was voted out on money alone. Sawant is far from perfect, but there were two city council candidates who voted against the head tax repeal; she was one of them. She was the only candidate to vote against the fucktastic dumpster fire that is the city's contract with the pig union, and now three other city council members have figured out that that wasn't such a great loving plan after all. Most of the rest of the city council's problem with her is that she's loving *RIGHT* about so much. MLK Labor should be turning out for her in droves, but they're owned by SPOG and Nicole "Amazon is our friend" Grant, so no luck there. We're using Amazon as a proxy for several different PACs, here. And Orion doesn't even register on the map without Moms for Seattle, CASE, and People for Seattle, which are all just astroturfing groups. All of this is to say letting Amazon buy a city council seat for a gay dude who's probably a Trump voter in one of the most progressive districts in the city isn't really a high point for democracy. Gerund posted:I'd highly recommend waiting until at least a few more days of ballot drops come in before reaching for any conclusions. Sawant was initially elected on a further gap from the first day drop. This is also true. I would say she's down but not out. I think Amazon is probably two for six (Pederson and Orion), but it could be just one for six (unfortunately, I don't think there's any way Scott comes back). Lewis' numbers are probably only going to get better, and Morales beat the poo poo out of Solomon. It definitely could be worse, but knocking out Sawant is a really important victory for Amazon (if they managed it). Ham Equity fucked around with this message at 17:57 on Nov 6, 2019 |

Thanatosian posted:Money will spread a lot of lies, and there were a lot of monied interests that wanted her out. So... Seattle is turning into Trump town because a moderate is giving a socialist a run for her money? Again, I'm not happy that Amazon is trying to influence things but funding doesn't necessarily define the candidate. Actions do define an elected representative and if said representative pisses off enough people, there's going to be repercussions. I'm saying things aren't as conspiracy theory as you think. This was Sawant's race to lose. As soon as the left goes tribal on each other, the right will move in to fill the void we created by shooting ourselves. Having a Union man isn't so bad. We have one as Governor and I certainly have my issues with him but he is no where near as bad as some other Governors.

I think there's a sense of entitlement that comes from the fact we live in a liberal area that somehow we deserve the most liberal person on the roster. It's kinda hard to back that up with over three quarters of registered voters didn't even bother checking a few boxes and sending in the pre-paid mailer. This idea that the sky is falling because the sheep are swayed is a false narrative and overblown. It sucks but Seattle is far from becoming purple, much less red. I would argue the more active and informed people voted while the one's who have become complacent with the liberal strength of the Northwest just let this election slide right past them.
