At the height of the gulag system, Russia edged us out per capita but not by that much.

Except that with climate change progressing as it is, if things stay the same then the likelihood is that the cartels are going to get much stronger and more powerful and dangerous. They're already the de-facto government and power structure in many places. They're well armed, well funded, and they have decades of infrastructure laid down. Now throw in a cataclysmic, unending drought that hits the entirety of Central America and you've got a Mad Max situation way sooner than a lot of even climate-aware Americans think.

Apologies if this is out of place in this thread, but have y'all noticed the big red MAKE SOMETHING AWFUL AGAIN banner ad recently? The one that links to This loving Photoshop Phriday from 2005 that is accessible from the front page? Well, there's some discussion about it going on in the QCS Ad Issues Thread, but it doesn't really seem to be going anywhere and I want this thread to loving see it, seeing as how it gets a solid amount of traffic and I figure y'all are the sorts of goons who would care to know that this was going on. It starts on page 32 (also btw, check out the biz about the Scarboil ad that was posted back in September and links to something called "n***er thread". Seems to be a trend of people buying ads for hosed up chud kicks) and mainly consists of PHIZ KALIFA and myself talking sense and a bunch of non-D&D goons going "but you can't delete history maaaaan" and that's pretty much it. A few people have suggested the brilliant idea of taking all of the old offensive stuff (like that Photoshop Phriday and some of the Fashion SWAT pages that are ridiculously transphobic) and putting it all in one place. To keep it all accessible (because it's the History Of The Site and apparently a page where Zack P. says stuff like: "Emotionally transgendered" is pretty much the definition I think of when I derisively call someone a human being. You can throw dicks up asses all you want, you can be Carson from Queer Eye in a faded pink Morrissey shirt, but you're just gay. This guy is a loving human being" is a valuable relic that must be shared with those who seek it) but put up a disclaimer explaining that We Disavow It and It's Not Who SA Is Anymore. You know, so we can make it even way way easier for Proud Boys to find it all and link it to one-another. Anyway I'm gonna just leave this here.

Also- I hope this gets more people talking about misogynoir (man, I really wish KM was here right now). There’s a FUCKTON of grotesque patriarchal horseshit that men in the Hispanic and black communities maintain and proudly hold up (see anything about Steve Harvey), and it’s left pretty much entirely up to black and Hispanic women to be the only ones discussing and fighting it. Meanwhile white Liberals do everything in their power to ~not get involved or pass judgment~ because it’s *not their place* to go interfering in a community’s culture. This even goes for a lot of white Liberal women and women’s rights activists. So expect any takes that we hear about TI’s parenting to come exclusively from women of color. Reminds me of all the hemming and hawing about “alienating the black vote” that centrist Dems did wrt supporting gay rights back in the 90s and 00s.

So in addition to credit scores, ChexSystems, and other crap, we have to deal with this bullshit now too? Can't believe I wasn't aware of these things. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/business/secret-consumer-score-access.html quote:As consumers, we all have “secret scores”: hidden ratings that determine how long each of us waits on hold when calling a business, whether we can return items at a store, and what type of service we receive. Contest Law is *a thing*, and running a contest (or more technically in this case, a sweepstakes) without it being properly registered can result in HUGE fines and even jail time. You don't get to just, Michael Scott-style say "I declare a contest" and only reap the rewards. The full list of winners and the procedures for determining that list of winners needs to be made available, and should have been registered in each of the 50 states before the contest began. Which is why I'm 100% sure this was done without any thought at all other than what pictures to use, and they're scrambling right now to find people who were at events who are comfortable saying they were there because they won a contest. In a just world, this would be as big a deal for people in positions of power as it is for a guy running a hot tub store on the side of the highway.
