And then he died in a hang-gliding accident. Which reminds me, has Cody from Cody's Lab died of mercury or some other heavy metal poisoning yet?

This has been so much in the media this fall because it's the 25th anniversary of the sinking. There's something about it every year around September, but this year in particular. This was also the first time that I learned there was a movie made of it with Donald Sutherland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgdOpVDLRHo It's, uh... it's something. bring back old gbs posted:can someone explain the death saw to me? it doesnt look any more stupidly dangerous than a wood splitter. the belt sander in the background looks worse to me but idk what Im really looking at There's a couple reasons. Old table saws are dangerous because of (well, partially) where the board can sometimes pinch between the fence and the blade if you're not careful. This will make the blade 'grab' the board and fling it backwards toward the user very, very quickly, and sometimes bring the user's fingers along for the trip through the path of the blade. This is a table saw but flipped 90 degrees-- you're sawing horizontally, so that the wood passing the completely-unshielded-on-any-side blade will necessarily be pinched by gravity itself. Your hand will also be encouraged by gravity to fall into the blade when this happens. Hell, the kickback path wouldn't even be guaranteed to be parallel to the fence. This machine is excruciating to even look at.

Pissed Ape Sexist posted:This is a table saw but flipped 90 degrees I think it's technically a wood shaper, but instead of a spinning bit (already inherently dangerous) you have a horizontally mounted blade. It's been modified with outright malice. But yeah, the greater point stands -- there just doesn't seem to be any way of using this thing safely. How do you feed anything in there without pinching the cutoff and having it shoot out in a random direction? How do you keep your hands away from the blade? Apparently, this is in a shop in Palestine, which does explain both the use-whatever-you-have ethos and the cavalier approach to safety given the surroundings. But still... Eat one of my fingers, shame on you. Eat two of my fingers, shame on me.

It's the one based on that lovely german journalists book about how her completely made up story totally prove the ship was carrying secret stolen russian tech, isn't it? Jutta Rabe is a terrible hack, who's been banned from visiting the shipwreck after continously scrounging from a nautical gravesite despite everyone telling her to gently caress off forever.

With all this talk of too-low bridges, I'm surprised some enterprising BU or MIT student hasn't outfitted Storrow Drive with webcams. That road eats so many cars that "Being Storrowed" is part of the vernacular around here.

I've been working in Spokane, WA every couple of months. Twice this year on my trip someone hit a downtown train bridge with a truck or trailer. I love DNE but I'm having trouble with his podcasts because his perfectly fine co-hosts just go off on tangents for 75% of the run time. I'm actually interested in the topics, not tangents and barely related anecdotes by his friends. The same folks with the same general format but a little more focused with DNE telling his 2 friends a story and them only talking to react to what they are learning and ask questions about the topic would be great.
