I'm usually try to be a skeptic about stories about Russia doing this or that. But seeing is believing. https://twitter.com/theleadflamer/status/1194466584552771585?s=19 Russian soldiers literally beheading people and then torturing a civilian, more in the thread.

lolling at the thought of Erdogan's aides My Fair Lady style coaching him on how to be flattering and cordial in order to get Trump to do whatever. And it not really working, but Trump does whatever anyway.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtGCw-U5520 Russian forces have reportedly secured the abandoned Sarrin Airfield the US built near Kobani. This was probably the largest airfield US forces were using in Syria.

Hopefully the OPCW IIT will address these allegations when they publish their final report on Douma, which is apparently due in the next couple of months.

Speaking of Iran, it's really weird not to see any news about the riots in this thread. Are US media silent about it?

It's hard to describe to people not familiar with Iranian politics how loving despised the basij are among basically anyone at all cosmopolitan under 40.Yeowch!!! My Balls!!! posted:seriously, "religious cops" is just such a delicious two-fer Basij are different from the morality police (who are also hugely despised and generally considered to be mostly perverts and weirdos). Basij are more analogous to maybe proud boys or something. Mob participation in politics has a long history in Iran (mob as in explicitly street brawling mobs, not so much the organized crime sense) to an extent that has no real parallel in the US. Like there's a bunch of old sayings about 'Iran is impossible to rule without the mobs' and to a real extent it was true as they were something of a form of representation for different factions. Someone more intimately familiar with Iranian political history might be able to give a better overall account. They are out yearning for the system to be replaced by either a strongarm monarch or a literal cult friendly to the US State Department. Rumor has it the neoliberal shock therapy boot has a slightly different flavor profile than the sanctions boot.
