i got impatient and went to skirmish mode to try out the new mechs. i made an annihilator with 4 AC20s and with a coolant flush pilot you can get 3 alpha strikes off before you shut down. i think the game knew and respected the insanity of this build because in the skirmish match i played all of my shots hit and it was glorious.

If anyone who has used mods is having problems, grab the FYLS Mod for a cleaner & more readable log.

If you see anything in that or the main log like this: [ERROR] manifestEntry is null for [Cool_Mod_Weapon], the problem might be that the file is not named Cool_Mod_Weapon.json

I just figured out & fixed this problem on my own install. Evidentially in the past the modloader didn't care if the itemID and the filename didn't match. Now they are required to match, and it buggers up the load if they don't.

Here's a thing to try in sequence:
1. Validate game files with steam. Turn off steam cloud saves. Quit steam.

2. In your steam folder, find userdata\<userid>\637090\remote\C0 & delete settings_cloud.sav. (Don't delete the subfolders, those are your campaigns.)

3. Open regedit and delete this item:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\CachedSettings_h2706256392

(I think that's all the actually important steps of the "official" way to fix a hosed up game, which is to uninstall the whole thing and reinstall.)

Nah, I don't actually like that much crunch (aka pointless complexity). Also I don't think rougetech solves any problems I have with balance, just substitutes them with a very different imbalance.

You'll need to mod the ++dmg versions to 65. I've done this, along with the heat change, and they're fine in the context of ++MLs, +++SRMs, and the like.

I also boosted the ++stb versions to 60 stb, which are also fine in the context of +++LRMs.

I found two different ++ snub nose PPCs and they might be the most ridiculous guns in the game.

One has +10 damage per cluster - so 25x5 damage for 35 heat. The other is -10 heat on 15x5 damage, for 25 heat. And these guns are just six tons! They were only about 400,000 in the shop and I don't even have heavy mechs yet.

I haven't gotten a 10 personally but going off of the other UACs I've gotten they're literally the same as normal ACs except they weigh 1 ton more and do double damage for double ammo - they double tap every time and never jam. Pretty good deal since without jams there's no reason not to double tap every time.

Can't post for 5 minutes!
So, I've finished the main campaign of the new DLC, which so far seems to be the only new flashpoint (Edit: Sorry, string of 3 flashpoints that are connected). The focus seems to have been more on new mechs and gear, as well as making the black market worth getting, rather than new missions. Which is a shame, since proper missions with proper choice is what I like the best about the game.

Which is really the weakest part here. There's very few actual worthwhile choices in the new campaign proper, nor things responding to your background like it did in the main game. The new campaign also forces you to do what you did in the main campaign, which is do side-missions between your main ones. Which was fine when you needed to build up your forces and their XP, not so much when you like me have already maxed out most of your things. It felt more like padding, and given that most of the missions you do in the DLC campaign are mostly generic reskins of regular missions, you really didn't need more of them. Of course, the experience is probably different for players who are starting over again from the beginning, and a lot of the content leveling seems like it is geared towards that sort of play. I know I'm one of the few people who stuck with their original campaign and never restarted or went for a new background or career mode, though.

However, that's not to say there isn't anything in the campaign to enjoy. There is, specifically, one very special thing I liked a lot. The final mission. Where you face off against both The Bountyhunter and Black Widow brawling amongst themselves and with you, in their souped-up Star League/Clan-modified mechs (not that you'd know) and their special traits that are really, really nasty. It gave me something which I don't see a lot of with my overly customized mechs and maxed-out mechwarriors: A challenge. Its just too bad you can't salvage most of the stuff off your opponents in that fight, for some reason. Maybe their reinforcements were closing in too fast or somesuch.

As for the brand new sharky mech, I like it, but its a bit easy to overheat. The main draw is of course the special weapon on it, which does indeed do some nasty damage if enemies get too bunched up. The quirks on the other new mechs are interesting, but aside from the Marauder I haven't seen much I want to play around with yet. But I'm sure there's more to explore here. I still need to grab an Annihilator, for instance.

There's new weapons, but I've mostly had a chance to play around with the LBX and UACs. The latter are good, but not overly great, trading longevity for the ability to rock and de-armor enemies early in a fight. The former are interesting, and I put them on the aforementioned Marauder. Its headcap ability was already quite good, and this let them do it over longer distances.

Overall, I did still like the DLC (I still haven't explored half the stuff in relation to the weaponry and other additions), but I'm hoping for future content (either in the form of a new game or some sort of proper expansion) which capitalizes on the greatest strength of the base game, which to me was (beyond the mostly balanced gameplay), the story elements which we saw evolve in earlier Harebrained games like Shadowrun and its various standalone expansions.

Oh, and also as a Swede, the name of that one AI should be altered, it would work better grammatically to call it something like Björnmor/Björnmamma.

I'm pretty sure Heavy Metal just assumed everyone would start a new game, like Flashpoints and UW (though that didn't pan out for me).

With LBX and UACs are there a lot of enemy mechs that actually end up using them or are they like Ravens where you just turbokill everything faster as a result? The game desperately needs modded/custom variants of mechs for the AI I think. It doesn't matter if they're even good; it can't be worse than instantly knowing you win against Thunderbolts if you call a shot against the chest.

That may just be the ultimate problem with BT/Mechwarrior; you can modify - the enemy never can. You have infinite variety (well almost) - the enemy has a couple dozen stock builds, half of which are intentionally poo poo.

Also, I'd finally started my first campaign a few weeks back and the update dropped unexpectedly on me. Will the new stuff appear in the game, or would I need a new save for that?

Yeah, I did 3 missions before advancing the day. I got an Assassin with the coil gun that does 100 damage at full charge. It's pretty OP in the early game, running around and popping lights. I also got really unlucky with an early pirate mission and ended up getting an mg ammo explosion on a Warhammer that I was trying to capture intact.
