Prides are better now. More unique features, and smaller map iirc

For Wildfire I just used Alchemist. That class is ridiculous. Just fuckin lob bombs everywhere all game long and you'll have the unlock in no time.

Herbotron posted:Tangledeep expansion is out. I haven't had the chance to play it yet but it has dragons. Thank you Yes it is out now on Steam and GOG! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1156710/Tangledeep__Dawn_of_Dragons/ https://www.gog.com/game/tangledeep_dawn_of_dragons But also, we're part of the Black Friday / Fall / whatever sale that just launched, so if you don't have the base game or Legend of Shara, that's cheaper than ever now. https://store.steampowered.com/app/628770/Tangledeep/ Plus if you look at the base game page, we now have a perma-bundle with the base game + both DLCs + OST. You can even use the "complete bundle" feature to get extra discounts. This will not help pay my mortgage but it does get the game out to more people <3 If you had told me I'd still be working on Tangledeep into 2020, back in 2016, I would not have believed you. But it is almost time to start the next game and that's hype too.

Pretty sure alchemist only exists to unlock wildfire and get newbies their first win at this point. It’s weird how little depth there is to that class compared to just about anything else. Throw bombs, put points in stuff that makes bombs bigger, realize you forgot to level the golem for the past 20 levels, beat the game and get mashed by automathon.

Had a really promising Brawler on Nightmare going. Was doing the prides, wasn't too rough, go into a vault, open a door and see a pack of multi-hued wyrms, and fatfinger a hotkey and instantly die. Soooo frustrated at my own mistake right now.

More on ToME; the freezy spiderbot chain of technomancer is kinda silly. The spiders leap toward any enemies they can see and have a good chance of freezing em to the ground.. So you just drop one at any blind corner you come upon. If it jumps you just fill the room with spiders and aoes. If anything does managed to unroot itself and make it around the corner you just knock it back into the spider gangbang with mudslide or whater. Strong but very methodical. Often never see your enemies.

What do you mean with this? I sorta had a problem when i bought the latest expansion on steam a week or so ago, then checked my DLC page on the website and had -20 voratun coins listed because it re-listed all the steam games and DLC as bought for some reason. It fixed itself like an hour later though. Speaking of bugs though, it's been a while since i played but, uh... This doesn't seem right. Note i'm an Oozemancer, why is this dude letting me learn magic? edit: maybe this new patch caused it?

It wouldn't surprise me if that's a new patch thing. OG ToME (when it was an Angband variant) had quests whose reward was training in a random skill, even off-class skills.

The point is that Oozemancer is an Antimagic class; they're incapable of learning or using magic, instead getting two unique skill trees (Antimagic and Fungus) and the ability to betray arcane escort quest NPCs in exchange for unique skills. In effect, they behave as if they'd joined Zigur from the start. They definitely shouldn't be able to learn Corruptor skills.

Alternatively I've noticed in this current version that the orc patrols don't follow you as fast as they used to and lose track after a tile or two so it's alot easier to not fight them at all.

Reviews say it gets pretty repetitive in the late game, though. Yeah comparing it to Darkest Dungeon it's somewhat similar but more complicated in ways which are subjective in whether or not they are good mechanics, like there being a dozen different debuffs and one of your classes can spread/duplicate debuffs between enemies as their primary attack. And it gets pretty tedious a lot faster than those reviews would indicate because a lot of enemies just end up being a boring HP sponge to wear down.

I thought I was just rusty, but that rear end in a top hat was eating my shields and regeneration effects with suspicious regularity, and playing an awfully focused keep-away game whenever I nuked down its various defensive effects. An AI overhaul could explain that (although it is more likely that I am simply bad).

Jarvisi posted:I've never actually beaten TOME. Any tips? I think I've gotten the farthest as an Archer, but die once you go through the portal to the massively powerful wandering mobs on the world map Don't fight enemies on the world map. It's possible to avoid them 99.9% of the time and the remaining 0.1% is turning a blind corner into fog of war and getting hosed -- and even that risk can be minimized, although every once in a blue moon (particularly in the East, which has a really annoying layout for a map you're going to be constantly pursued across) it's unavoidable. On Normal this isn't actually necessary, a well-optimized character can handle them easily, but they're still harder than regular enemies. On Nightmare they are doable but not worth the risk. On Insane, actually getting caught by a wandering party is usually a game-over unless you pull out all the stops just to get away or are playing a really OP class. I haven't fought any patrols since 1.6 hit, but at least before my biggest complaint about them was their huge variance in danger. The average patrol actually isn't too bad -- a few rares and a handful of normal orcs, mixed between some tree cover that allows you to use LOS that lets you pick them off a few at a time. But every once in a while you'll run into that megafucker assassination squad that's been commissioned by God himself to absolutely ruin your poo poo. We're talking a pair of counter-comp randbosses that close in on turn 3, a supporting cast that drowns you in undead chaff and antimagic fuckery, and a wyrmic or two that bursts you down as soon as your health starts to dip. Not fun.

Jumping in with a gif from Escape from Aeon, development version available for free on itch.io, by spider wisdom & yours truly. This time showcasing an effect inspired by best game Diablo 2 - Disray-type weapons now arc to hit other nearby targets. ToME... I wanna give it another shot, last time I wasn't a fan of the "get bored by fighting trash and then two-shot by some random dude" gameplay loop, but sounds like 1.6 had a thing to warn you when you just got rocked for half your life.

ToME has had a low-health warning for ages. You can even set the HP threshold where it kicks in; I raised it to 50% because I've lived by the motto of "anything that can take you to half health has proven that it can kill you" ever since my DCSS days. Although now I'm not 100% confident it's part of the base game rather than a ZOmnibus add-on. I'm pretty sure it's in the base game, but on the other hand there's basically no reason to ever play without ZOmnibus anyways.

Tangledeep expansions: There's a mimic enemy that swipes your equipped weapon and you get it back once it dies. But it also wipes your weapon's memory of what off-hand it's supposed to be paired with, and if you keep a secondary off-hand to go with a secondary weapon, you'll probably end up with your secondary off-hand paired with your main weapon, and probably not notice for a while.
