I’m learning R right now and tbh i think giving it to kids would be like teaching them calculus with a ti-89

Like as much as I hated those old assholes for making me do it there really is value in starting with the theory and working things out by hand

I took an engineering stats class in college taught by a part time professor who’s day job was a statistician for the city. He went over the basics, then taught us how to solve it in R. And then on the exams, he’s ask us to hand write the proper input to R rather than do the math by hand. I learned a lot, and it was an easy A.

Of course, that would imply that he is directly responsible for them getting suffrage when they did, and I wouldn't exactly put such a claim past him.

R and Python are both great, free open source options. I’d suggest Python over R just because it is a more functional language all together, and most of Rs best features are reproduced in Python (statsmodels, plotnine etc.). It also had the added benefit of being more robust in the CS/ML fields.

Although I’m a CS to Dats Science person so obviously I’m super biased in that regard too.

He's like a much more savvy, younger Hillary. His only goal in life seems to be to get more status and power and doesn't actually want to actually accomplish anything besides acquire more power.

I think we're going to see a lot more of these types now that Trump has made everyone realize you can get away with anything and the executive branch is effectively unchecked. I think Trump is inspiring a lot of much more competent psychopaths to follow in his footsteps, the first person to get elected who is actually educated and intelligent in the Trump mold will be scary as hell.

While officers can't avoid using Excel, not many are very proficient at it.

Any MOS that works in an office should get Excel training. I tried training some clerk's I worked with to use it because the Excel products they used were old and had lots of broken formulas.

I made them a newer, simpler one with what I thought were clear instructions on how to use it and I checked it a few months later and they had broken that one to. They use it every day and they're content just continuing on no matter how broke it gets.

Just in case there was any doubt at all that the game plan is to hardcore rat gently caress the nation sans lube whenever Republicans get power, and then use the judicial branch to selectively invalidate everything when Democrats manage to find their own rear end with two hands and a map long enough to show up.

There is no alternative left, either pack the courts and break this strangle hold or just admit that the nation's future is a slow ratcheting death spiral that can only ever be temporarily fought to a stand still before things get worse.

This is what happens when you create an entirely separate media and political ecosystem.

When you never have to leave your own bubble of information, you never have to confront reality and its issues.

And as reality starts pushing back at your moronic world view, your bubble causes you to just spiral into more and more lunacy to explain away reality.

The Republican party, Murdoch's media empire, and a small cadre of billionaires are going to sink the entire world rather than do anything they don't want to do.

Olds versus the youngs.

Also I don't think Amazon bought off Indiana with a campaign contribution, that's not how you buy off local politicians nowadays. You buy off local politicians by dangling jobs. The jobs in their state/district are far more important to them, and their reelection, than a campaign contribution. They don't care about the jobs, or the money, but they care about reelection, which is mostly job-fueled.
