Remember everyone, the JC have been publishing headlines as inflammatory as this once or twice a month for the last three years. Just think about all the headlines that have passed until now and think of all the positive signs we've seen for Labour over the last couple of weeks. Whatever impact this story could have had has long since been maximised and we're still seeing huge crowds turn out for Corbyn. Today is a blip and it was always going to come at some point, there's still another 16 days to follow and they will be positive :)

Here’s a question everyone. My other half’s last two payslips were on an emergency tax code so she lost a large chunk of pay despite her employers getting a P45. She’s had a look for this month and yet again it’s on an emergency tax code.

Is she best to give it both barrels to her employer or to HMRC?

Yes. It is unprecedentedly precedented. In fact it's one more precedented than the last time they did this.

HMRC. Under RTI the tax codes are just provided to the employer/payroll provider, there's nothing they can do about them AFAIK (based on when we discuss this with the provider we use for our payroll)

HMRC. They issue the tax codes to the employer, and then the employer has to implement them on payroll.

Yea, two weeks is loads of time. There's what, two more televised debates still to go and plenty of free time in which the Tories will continue to make racist comments and be Twitter's main character.

Extremely medium day on the picket at my building too but others around campus are reporting good things. The strike is bigger than what any one person can observe and it's sometimes hard to see past the cold drizzle. People came around last time and can do so again - momentum builds.

Make sure any on the fencers know about the strike fund and how easy it is to claim. I got the max amount of money back last time due to my laughably precarious situation.

The anti union laws that have been in place are there to demoralize and frustrate worker action and yet people still picket. I believe JC when he says these rules will be revoked. Labour are going to edge it and suddenly we're in a whole new situation.

Thanks! Yes, momentum will build and we will succeed. I'll try to persuade people but I've already had my hand bitten for guilt-tripping.
I'm particularly peeved because we wrote a very nice email to our HoD to say "by the way, here's the precise impact on our team's work" and the response was "I can't do anything about national negotiations." No... but maybe you can use your HoD voice and do more than we can as researchers on time-limited contracts. Atomisation is a real annoyance.

Lisa Forbes 'liked' a video expressing solidarity with the victims of the Christchurch shooting where the OP said in the accompanying text "zionist slave masters". Forbes said she just watched the video and hadn't read the text.

Claudia Webbe (who is loving brilliant btw) said in 2006 that Ken Livingstone's "history of work in the anti-racist movement is unquestionable." Just want to underline that this was in 2006.

I generally try to stay away from Kuennsberg bashing but her coming out with this about those two is really disgusting.

I've managed to sort this exact issue before via HMRC webchat (if the option doesn't show up refresh the contact page every minute until it does - they only let you join the queue if there's not many people in it).

Company recieved my new tax code in 72hrs and I got the tax back that month.

The poll grind is real and exhausting, but it's interesting to see what happens when the voodoo of turnout weightings are removed...

Usual caveats apply (national poll, landline, etc.)
worth noting that across all of kantar's polls respondents say that for ge2017 they voted at least 20% more say they voted con than lab in that election - if it were a representative 2017 sample it'd be ~6% (23/26/22 per the latest 3 polls) (13.6m voted tory, 12.8 voted labour)\

yougov's above is 16% and they have 4 age bands: 18-24, 25-49, 50-64, 65+. the 50+ groups go at least 2:1 con/lab in their weighted results

the results are full of royalty questions and hilarious: https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/0r7hd5gxhg/TheSundayTimes_VI_Results_191122_w.pdf
