Yeah, I remember the RED camera being the early standard bearer for being actually useable and not a huge convoluted mess, and that the mid00s Miami Vice reversion was among the first Digital films to actually have good color depth and didn't look like a flat sitcom. Might have been among the first where the resolution was also approaching film levels, too.

It's really remarkable how much the concept of Film has changed within our lives. The movies we watch are so immaculate. You miss out on the small imperfections of film and that's kind of weird that you just forget that there used to be grain or splices or reel change markers or jitter...

As for Lucas, the oft-repeated story is that he was so miserable with the on location shooting in Tunisia that he wanted more control over all the externalities, while also finding ways to get his films closer to the ideas he saw (reducing the limitations of conventional practical effects). So he gravitated towards CGI and digital sets.

I watched TLJ for the first time since theaters after my friend said new Star Wars is bad because Rey beat Kylo in the first one and the casino plot is terrible.

I well actually’d it owns and the casino plot is the best plot in the new trilogy. Can confirm after watching it again.

TLJ is wonderfully subversive. That’s my star war story thanks for reading.

I’m so darn mad about this opinion!

Props for him getting a film made about black airmen.

Though maybe he should have just financed it and found a black up and coming director to helm it....

Lucas with primative motion controls, models, and composite shots made a more compelling dogfight 40 years ago than he did with all the digital toys in the world lol

Lucas didn't direct Red Tails except for some reshoots. Though he probably did exercize some pretty heavy-handed influence over the thing.

Latest Mandalorian was awesome. A bunch of baby Yoda farting about and Mando has to say more than four lines. Toss in a busted up piece of poo poo AT-ST and it's golden.
Obviously the fact that they bring on not just one but two strong women will make certain people screech but fuckem.

gently caress the screwfly CHUDS forever. Catering to them is a dead end; the whole culture war grift is to find an angle where you can be aggrieved no matter what. If they didn't have girls in it they would say Yoda is a metaphor for demographic replacement or something.

It was a bit more of a "light" episode, tonally more ewok adventure than rogue one, but still drat safisfying.

Turns out going back to formula and ripping off kurosawa with space western trappings gets yo a serviceable star war, who knew?

Especially funny given we have never once seen a Mandalorian not get their poo poo kicked in a fist fight that wasn't a CGI Mandalorian.

The reason being you cannot see loving poo poo out of those helmets. Your eyes are where the "nose" is on the helmet. Try choreographing a convincing fight that isn't Jango v. Obi-Wan or Mando v. Cara when one of your stunt actors can barely see.

Its kinda like a real maneuver, but without the parts that are subject to gravity and drag and laws of motion, thus looks really fake, since it kinda is.

You can do really crazy poo poo in air combat, but no this.
Like back in WW1 planes were going so slow you could hit the rudder so hard the plane would fly sideways for a few seconds , enabling a "drive by" shooting to the side of the actual flight axis, only to straighten out by motion by itself (and counter rudder).
Richthofen scored a couple of kill this way, handbreak-turning out of a head-to-head to gun the enemy plane into the side whil being out of harms way himself, so its not just a "what if" scenario.

You cant do that while going 500mph though, just like stalling yourself in a looping to cut it short.
Youre simply going too fast for this to work in a Mustang, while it might completely doable in a Fokker.
