I built something fun out of an Assassin for some of the Urban Flashpoints that have a 55t/200t drop limit.
Just a single SL, max jump jets and armor, and two meelee++ arm mods. LOL it jumps across half the map and punches for 90 DMG + 50 STB.
It's not super great, but the low drop limit missions usually have trash opfor, so....

Pick up a COIL-L instead. If you're doing the FPs late in the game and have a top end pilot with Coolant Vent, you can core any light or medium mech with one hit on a shoot, rest, shoot-vent-shoot basis. You need to rest for three turns after that, but since you've just killed 40% or more of the OPFOR in four turns while your other three mechs chase the rest that shouldn't be an issue.

E: you'll also be almost impossible to hit, as you'll have 5 pips when shooting and 7 pips when you use the rest turn to sprint back out of range.

Since I'm best buddies with Davion I went to visit them upon realizing the whole UAC thing and went on a several million dollar shopping spree. I now have UAC's for days. Months. Years.

What's more scary than a pair of Atlas with AC 20's coming at you?

A pair of Atlas with UAC 20's coming at you.

And that doesn't get into the other mechs and their loadouts.

A bull shark with quad UAC 5's is pretty mean. Doesn't hurt that those UAC5's are minus three tons so helps add more ammo.

So, uh, what the gently caress did they do with snub nosed ppcs? I have one with +10 damage and it's spraying out five shots at 25 damage each. :stare: I thought they were just supposed to be a shorter ranged PPC with no minimum range.

No they are full on ppc shotguns and actually seem worth using. The fact that the +dmg version applies to each pellet is kind of insane though.

There's a really annoying bug now where if you finish an objective mid-combat (like a leopard evacuating your escorts), combat immediately ends, restarts, and the enemy lance gets a full round of moving and bracing. It'll do it mid-round so all my mechs are now on fire in this loving Kell FP because the enemy lance has flamers and got to shoot them twice essentially :negative:

e: This means that in two consecutive missions, five mechs were structure damaged and because Morgan hates me three guys got shot in the head

I kitted out a warhammer with two of them and 4 small SLs. Some MLs in there too. It's vicious. The problem is that it doesn't seem like I'm getting a damage bonus from the capacitors, at least checking the damage pop-up when I shoot something. It also doesn't seem like I got any bonus damage with the Phoenix Hawk after jumping. Any idea why?

It definitely applies to PPCs, the +10 damage ones decapitate everything on the Warhammer.

so the extended Dobrov Flashpoint kinda petered out in play-through. After coming across the Black Widow for the first time, I received a notification that the ship had been found again and that I should hurry because Kerensky would also find it quickly. But nothing ever showed up on the Star Map. In fact, I am now out of Flashpoints to do altogether so I guess I missed the end of this?

There should be a blue flashpoint marker somewhere in the non-affiliated area, close to where the previous ones were. It may be a bit hard to see due to the color. It doesn't have an expiration, and, well, it's 5 star, so plenty of prep time may be in order.

(I am way too unready to take it).

Has anyone tried the new Banshee 3S variant? On paper it seems like it would make a decent assault because they dropped the engine to something reasonable, leaving loads of room for weapons. I'm playing ironman and I could buy 3 parts, but I'm not sure I want to blow 3+ million just to find out it's poo poo.

It looks like it has 63 free tons and so it is very close to a King Crab when it comes to available tonnage whilst being the same speed. Lots of energy hardpoints and not much of anything else though so I am guessing it is a mech you load up with snub nosed PPCs or large lasers in mass.

so i put four inferno srms on a mech and the ability to just turn a mech off is hilarious and way funnier than turning off three mechs in the middle of combat. they dont do poo poo for damage and they dont have a ton of longeviety but they are hilariously good at crowd control. if i could lay hands on more of them id build a gimmick lance of nothinf but them

It's good. A proper fit was a bit awkward before because it required an AC20, but there's several good ballistics now so you get a lot more freedom.

Am I nuts or is the LB 2-X actually...good? I stuck a ++ version on a mech and it's great at finishing off the wounded. I think it's 12x4(+2) damage and +50% crit. It also regularly chips in pilot injuries.

The LB2X is pretty good for its weight, I've never seen a 5, the LB10 and 20Xs are kind of underwhelming so far compared to the Ultras.

Rule of thumb: any weapon that delivers its damage in multiple elements demands that you take a good hard look at the math when you see a ++damage version, because that multiplier can take you into fantastic places for the tonnage you are using.

For the uninitiated: this monster vomits out 750 damage alphas.

And it's absolutely hilarious! Each volley the pc hitches for a bit and the target mech disintegrates. This thing does it to heavies, not locusts.

Speaking of hitches, my performance in this game seems to be lovely in spite of having an i5-6600K @4.4, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1070 and an SSD. I know it gets worse the longer it runs & the more saves you have, but even on a fresh start with old saves deleted it sometimes hitches when I shoot things. With every other game the FPS are what you'd expect for the hardware I've got.

The +10 stab Snubs on that build would "only" deal 450 damage per volley but they also deal 450 stability damage as well. Instant maxed-out stability bar on pretty much any mech, even braced? Yes, please!

Snub PPCs are stupid fun, yo.

I play Iron Man just to keep the saves in check and I find it helps significantly, but I also avoid missions I know are prone to bugging out (escorts). Unity's got some inherent memory leak issues IIRC, and this was HBS's first unity engine game.
