Adding up some subsets of its divisors (e.g., 1, 4, 5, 10 and 20) gives 40, hence 40 is a semiperfect number. deano fucked around with this message at 18:18 on Dec 3, 2019 |

One thing I'm wondering about is how GOTV is gonna affect the final outcome. Cos it's all well saying the tories have more voters but a lot of people don't vote on the day. And if Labour's benefiting from a boost of volunteers, well coordinated, plus a big focus on being available on election day, doesn't that suggest we might have a nice bump due to being able to get our voters out better than the tories? They can't buy people into the polling booth, after all, and their ground game is shite. I was also wanting to ask, if you sign up to do lifts on polling day, the party insures you, but does this cost them? I'd like to sign up but I genuinely won't know if I'll be available on the day and I don't want to cost them money.

Get them into specifics. You'll often find that they don't really know what doesn't make sense and are just repeating what someone who is supposed to explain things to them are saying in bad faith (See the months of people saying that having a second referendum after Labour debate a new deal is too complicated for their feeble six figure brains) From there you can explain things, point out that say Free broadband has been costed and would actually improve the economy because of all the money freed up from paying for broadband and giving money to people who can now access the internet at high speeds. Genuinely a lot of people have just accepted that better things aren't possible and all you have to do is prove that not only are better things possible but they're better for everything not just you right now. Honestly just mention that nobody will have to pay the £18 for a landline that nobody uses and you're halfway there.

OwlFancier posted:I recently learned that Victoria 2, the mapgame, has "anarcho liberals" in it. So basically the way politics works in Vicky is there are ideologies, and each class of population has (theoretically) interests and an ideology they naturally incline to. Capitalists are Liberal, obviously, craftsmen (factory workers) are Socialist, farmers (I think) are Conservative, etc. But there's other inputs to the system: each POP has a consciousness score and a militancy score, basically how politically aware they are and how pissed off they are. With low consciousness, a POP might vote against its interest, I think usually for whatever the local Conservative party. Militancy is more interesting, in that it makes the POP more radical. So, there are four base ideologies in the game: Liberal (voting rights for all, laissez-faire capitalism), Conservative (resist change), Socialist (controlled economy but also no democracy??) and Fascist (WAAAAAR). The first three of these also have radicalised variant ideologies that a POP will switch to when it's mad. Conservatives go Reactionary, Socialists go Communist, and Liberals... go Anarcho-Liberal. Because the devs needed a "radicalised" version of liberalism and had never heard of the Jacobins or the, heh, Radicals, I guess. That's the root of the whole problem: an overly-schematised game design awkwardly attempting to fit the entire political spectrum of the 19th century. The lack of any sort of non-authoritarian socialism is born of a similar kludge: the game has two sets of "reforms" you can pass, like laws that determine how your country works: political reforms (voting rights) and social reforms (workers rights). Liberals are for political reforms and will compromise on social reforms if things are going badly. Socialists are for social reforms and will compromise on political reforms. Conservatives will resist both. They had a slot to fill and they squashed socialism into it. It dumb.

Depends how in depth their argumentation goes because when it comes down to it economics is not actually a science and the best you can do is estimate how much things will cost and how much income new taxes will raised based on historical evidence and some kind of economic model you've constructed. One of my preferred angles is to tell people that Labour's plans put public spending as a proportion of GDP on about the same level as Germany and that there's no reason why we can't do the same thing that they do.

I'm a fan of 101domain.com myself as their DNS control panel doesn't suck utter poo poo. When you say "manage through gmail" though what do you mean? If you want mail for that domain routed straight to google/gmail then you'll need a GSuite account unless you're lucky enough to have one of the older Free for Life GApps accounts. Otherwise the registrar will need to provide pop/imap access which I believe you can add as a third party download option in normal gmail.

Yeah, I've no problem with the consciousness/militancy system in principle. It's a real shame that V2 never got on the infinite tuning patch/expansion treadmill that came in with CK2, because they are going to rip the heart straight out of that game if they get a chance to do a whole-boat redesign.
