Yeah the one I got from Amazon years ago basically looked like that. Paid whole 7 bux for it though :colbert:

It's a really cool toy even if you aren't cleaning up after your dog, just shining it at various plastics and other materials does cool things sometimes.

I posted about a Lego Saturn V rocket that I ordered a while back. It was delivered a week or so ago, and I was waiting for the holiday to put it together.

Parts are Lego quality. The instructions, all 200 pages of them, are genuine Lego instructions.

So far, I've only assembled the booster stage. Everything went together well and the instructions were easy to follow. I did have one part missing for the engine cowling, but it won't be too hard to fix it with super glue.

The build so far:

The missing part!

It attaches that cowl to the main body, but I think I can super glue it to the other side.

Impressions so far...not horrible for $48, which is half off the current price on Amazon (it was $170 last year). I don't know if I'll try the Millenium Falcon knock-off for $200 USD though.

I got the Yellow Submarine set a while ago and had the same experience. Instructions were great but missing a piece which I bought online for like 15 cents plus shipping.

As I finished building the rocket last night, I saw the pages at the end of the instructions where they listed every part by part number. The part I'm missing is twenty cents. Shipping is $5. Oh well, at least it will be complete.

I bought the black-light flashlight since I lost the one I was using for cat pee detecting.

I also bought a giant flashlight that is really bright

Yeah this is a fun toy to have in your bag, bought a few rolls of sticker paper to try out

The companion app is mostly jank-free and intuitive, which is surprising considering some of the awful stuff I've used in the past. You can do text & photo, a few different fonts, some borders etc. Also document printing (!), to-do list printing, a few other options that are increasingly niche.

The instruction leaflet is printed in a font size so small it made me actually laugh, I had to take a photo with my phone and pinch-zoom to read it.

Also shipped worryingly quickly, ordered on Nov 27, here Dec 03 - checked on Ali and definitely shipped from China, not somewhere closer.

Might make a good gift for kids paired with a tablet, the paper is the only consumable as it's a thermal print head and the rolls are cheap in bulk.

hydro flask for less than half retail price. Comes with flip top lid, normal lid, and paracord strap.

Mine is a 40oz and arrived yesterday. Its identical to the one sold in retailers. No funky smells or defects that I could see. Its a real powdercoat not painted like they could have to cheap out. Its a functional product and it kept my ice water icy all night long without sweating onto the counter. If I had to guess its a 3rd shift product, hence no packaging. It doesnt say made in china anywhere, just designed in Bend, OR on the bottom. I ordered on nov 20th and it shipped to california pretty fast. Im definitely going to buy more

There are a lot of different possible bottoms and they dont always say made in china even if real. The bottom text changes often and isnt a reliable indicator barring obvious mispellings. Some are printed, some are laser engraved, some are powdercoated. These appear to be the ones they stopped making in 2019.

As far as I can tell, the majority of the ones that say made in china are real and there are also real ones that dont say made in china. Mine is of course fake with with very real looking kerning on the text and a properly placed logo. With a silicone boot on the bottom no one would know.

A lot of people think that having the "made in china" means its real but there are definitely ones on AE that say it as well plenty of examples of ones bought at major retailer that dont say it. Its all extremely muddy

I finally got around to installing a set of stepper driver upgrades for one of my 3D Printers:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000007373392.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.291d4c4dkWqXHb

Holy moley the stories are true, driver upgrades may not improve print quality, but they drat well make poo poo QUIET!

Sagebrush
Feb 26, 2012

Anecdotally, I have seen a subtle but noticeable improvement in print quality when upgrading from an 8-bit controller with A4988 drivers to a 32-bit controller with TMC2130s. Same version of Marlin on both boards. I don't know if it's the finer microstepping available on the trinamic drivers, or better motion planning on the 32-bit processor, but the parts definitely have less high frequency jitters (i.e. are smoother) on curved paths.

And they're so much quieter too, yeah

OK, so I only did homing tests and a basic calibration last night when I posted before.

Forgot that I need to set Vref and have some active cooling over them for my specific printer, Lucky I have another 2 unmolested printers to print the part I need. And one single person on all the communities for this printer gives up the Vref magic voltage.
