Oh sure yeah your views can mutate over time but you can't just snap your fingers and say "I have completely different political beliefs now."

As you note it usually coincides with some sort of upheaval in your life or in the political landscape, a change of circumstances or an event which causes you to question your political beliefs. If you've been used to people hating your politics from the start then that's not going to necessarily change them, though losing your house or such might, as might something that personalizes a position you had previously externalized, like your kid coming out as gay, while a lot of people entrench and become even more bitter, for some people that can be the impetus to get better.

Like it's possible if I become filthy rich I might turn into a tory, but I'm definitely not going to as long as I'm in the state I'm in.

I often wonder how conservative I might have ended up if I’d been straight.

Do we have confirmation that the Lib Dem press officer tried to remove him from the room? It doesn't happen in the video and he has not himself tweeted to that effect. Some kind of proof or a statement that it happened could be quite amazing to have.

In theory this could bring sighs of relief to the Tories because Trump might have less opportunity to embarrass them.

...But we all know that as soon as Trump gets home he's gonna hit the shitter and the Twitter. Trump is pissed :getin:

It will be helpful because the Tories have been talking about our great post-Brexit trade deal with the US. If Trump goes all 'I will watch, cackling, as your pathetic nation sinks into the waves' (or whatever that translates to in Trumpese), that's not great for them.

The small print says 'across Scotland' so that chart is actually accurate. Misleading as hell but not technically a lie. Ive seen quite a few like these from different parties now, maybe it was a regular thing in previous elections but its this one I've noticed it the most.

Yeah, we're unlikely to get anything great out of him, but it's no big loss IMO. We have plenty of material to work with already :D

Anyway, some damage has already been done. Everyone was expecting Trump to support the Tories and most British people hate Trump. We're doing alright on that front :getin:

Right, but it takes a conscious effort. And the real game changer is that the less you challenge opinions, the weaker that pathway gets and the harder it is to challenge opinions.

Nobody over the age of about 30 just happens across an opposing political theory and casually drifts toward it, you have to engage with it and be the kind of person who is either willing or forced to put up with the resulting stress.

Most people just let their thoughts drift into familiar patterns, which are usually "Work good, politics bad, money good, anything that threatens the status quo bad."
