zoux posted:Here's a question, why didn't they make the Terminator a huge fat guy and fill his ample bulk with future laser guns and other sci fi weapons At least in the first one, Kyle mentions that the humans were close to winning and sending back Arnie was a sort of last ditch, spur of the moment thing, so likely no time to prepare. But in the first ep of The Sara Connor Chronicles, a Terminator posing as a teacher does rip open his leg skin and pulls out a hidden gun.

mdemone posted:That's exactly how that works. Disney did not gently caress this up, but they should have somehow made an assload of merch in secret....and hid it all for a year....without anyone aside from cast/crew knowing about the character....? It would have almost definitely leaked from a factory if they were making plush ones, for instance.

Sometimes people being dumb idiots gets in the way of their ravenous greed.

Zootopia was a gamble in terms of it being completely new IP & Disney does get a little gunshy with that. The Mandalorian is also a little bit of a gamble in that it's the 1st live-action Star Wars show but TBH not believing in Favreau to deliver a hit seems… excessive? I mean, the latest Lion King did well financially but left a lot of people cold in terms of reviews. Still, the dude helped create the MCU; give him a little credit.

Also they could've just looked at his early treatments for The Mandalorian and realized it was gonna be huge with the fan base.

To say they thought it wasnt going to be marketable isnt quite right but remember the Mandalorian series came out of shitcanning the movie because Solo was a bomb so I would think they might be cautiously optimistic.
