FOOTBALL HOOLIGANS UNFURL ANTISEMITIC BANNER AT GAME

IT'S FAN-DEMONIUM at [help me peeps! What stadium is this? I don't know poo poo about football and googling is getting me nowhere!] Stadium today as vicious antisemites unveiled a viciously antisemitic banner, blocking the views of many innocent fans. Several complained to our reporter, including real couple who recently celebrated their Bismuth-209 Wedding Anniversary, Sally Smith and Jimmy Jones:

"We were out on a romantic date that was supposed to save our marriage that was spoiled by those uncouth ruffians!" said Sally, holding back tears.

"Well no, we could still see. We were a few rows behind and off to the side a bit. But it was still a horrible thing to see!" she added, her eyes beginning to well up.

"Well no, we couldn't read it because we were behind it. But you've told us what it said, so we're retroactively outraged! Although come to think of it, you haven't shown us a picture for some reason," she said, her face falling as if she might begin the process of crying in the near future. "But we're still furious about this antisemantic banner!"

"Women eh? Can't live with them, can't live without them," her husband Jimmy added masculinely.

Football 'hooligans' 'unfurl antisemitic banner at game'

By Adrian Smith-Smythe

One could be forgiven for thinking that racism at football matches was a solved issue, but that was proven wrong today, when 'vicous antisemites' unveiled a 'viciously antisemitic' banner, blocking the views of numerous innocent fans. And not only was the game marred for all, but one elderly wedded couple said that it even ruined their bismuth-209 wedding anniversary, which was being held at the stadium.

As I was enjoying a Fabergé easter egg in my refurbished antique garderobe-cum-easychair, I pondered how far we have fallen if there can once again be racism at football matches. And it's all Labour's fault, and specifically Jeremy Corbyn's. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch, particularly if it's the apple at the top of the pile.

As my father once told a young me: "They have a section and we have a section. And that is how it will always be."

He was speaking of the wonderfully inclusive policy at our local club (which my father was the owner of) of welcoming coloured people by going so far as to provide them their own section, so that no one could be made to feel uncomfortable. It had fewer working seats, but my father assured me that was a coincidence and would be resolved soon enough. The toilets seemed to be in disrepair too, but again, that was presumably dealt with.

My father allowed me to take the kickoff to start a match once, though I was never on the team. Sadly, I scored an own goal.

Football was never my forte, for every time I tried my foot ended up in my mouth. It's a problem I can't shake to this day, so I ultimately gave up even trying.

Mine is the saddest story of this winter election period, second only to the sadness of this vile antisemitic, Corbyn-inspired act.

Hang your head in shame, Jeremy.

You are correct but this is plainly not 'qualified support for labour, an institutionally flawed party that needs to go a lot further but is at present the best shot the left has at regaining ground'. It's 'lol labour are just as bad as the Tories, a Corbyn government would be as bad as a Johnson one, what's the point in voting anyway'. Outside of an election that's dumb hyperbole that nevertheless creates leftward pressure, but pulling it right before a GE is outright dangerous.

Sort of overestimating the influence of a really good & useful website's Twitter account either way

TBH I have doubts about socialists who don't have serious reservations with liberal democracy as a pathway to socialism. Like, I engage with it because it's a compromise I'm willing to make in the short term but parliamentarianism has been shown to repeatedly take the wind out of the sails out of radical movements in exchange for reforms which absolutely improve things but it turns out are also depressingly easy to reverse so long as you have enough money & media influence. I get why someone would be reluctant to do so for this manifesto.

I mean mate, if you go to the LibCom Twitter expecting them to endorse a social democratic party pushing what would have been regarded as a pretty milquetoast manifesto 45 years ago I dunno what to say. Anarchists  Outside influences on the left keeping the heat on Labour is a good thing. Challenging the stupid assumption that more police is a positive? A good thing.

If climate change wasn't a problem that capitalism is inherently incapable of solving I might agree with you, but I think right now we need the structures we have to make immediate changes, it's not possible to make changes that paper over the cracks any more, until we solve the root problems it's going to keep getting worse for people, so the need is never going to go away.

The young folk who've joined up this election that I've spoken to are all more left than the party itself. The membership is more left than the party. But we are just, just on the cusp of being able to take control of the government, and that limits what's on the table. The generation gap is not going to go away overnight though, we're going to get further left right in time for the need for transformative left politics to become an absolute necessity.

I put more faith in that than "well actually liberal democracy is an affectation of the bourgeoisie and furthermore glub glub glub ow ow the bullets ow I'm starving to death"

I mean the liberal democratic political institutions have a real material effect on the lives of everyone living in this country, so it seems like engaging with them might be a worthwhile thing to do occasionally?

Like, I can understand why you might be opposed to them on principle, and I agree with the criticisms of Labour's immigration and policing policies that I saw on their timeline, but if you actually care about making peoples lives better next week and not just at some hypothetical point when we start collectively self-organising then you should be trying to get a Labour government IMHO.

I also saw their tweets about how canvassing for social democrats distracts from direct action and how they're going to "continue to try to run their own lives without the intervention of a ruling class" or whatever it was, but a lot of people (me included) weren't organising workers coops and strikes beforehand so I'm not sure how distracted from those activities I've been and running our own lives with the intervention of rulers might be the way forward, but currently there are people in charge of stuff and they're still going to be in charge next week so at least we might as well try and make sure they're not the loving tories

Criticising Labour from the left is a good thing, deciding that "gently caress it, it won't change anything because reformism is for idiots" is just denying objective reality

maybe I'm misreading the tone of their tweets and maybe they are actually out there working to overthrow capitalism, I don't know, I have no idea who these people are. I just clicked on one of their tweets, saw something I thought was funny and made a glib comment.

Dog Therapy: Shockingly Good
All polls are poo poo but the latest ones have Labour closing the gap, mad motivation for motley canvassers. The Graun?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/07/opinium-poll-tories-15-point-lead-over-labour-four-days-until-election

quote:

:byodood: Tories hold 15-point lead over Labour with just days until election :byodood:

Jeremy Corbyn does not appear to be changing perceptions of his leadership in the same way he did in the 2017 election. In terms of who voters see as the best prime minister, Johnson is up 1 point to 37%, while Jeremy Corbyn is up to 21%. Public satisfaction with Johnson has decreased 2 points since last week’s poll to 28%, although outright preference for Corbyn has stayed level at 29%.

Brexit remains the most important issue at the election, but health has increased in importance. In the first week, the most important issue deciding voting choice was Brexit (40%), with health in distant second on 18%. Although this has narrowed, with days to go Brexit (33%) retains a slight lead over health and the NHS (22%).

However, in other regards, perceptions of Corbyn are not significantly worse than at the last general election. Currently only 29% can imagine him as prime minister, while three in five (59%) cannot. At the same stage in the 2017 general election, a third (34%) could imagine him as prime minister, compared to 56% who could not.

Perceptions of the election campaign have been poor compared to the last general election. At this stage in 2017, two in five (40%) said the campaign had left them with a more positive perception of Corbyn, while a similar proportion (38%) had been left with a more negative opinion of Theresa May.

In this campaign, Johnson appears to have come off slightly better than Corbyn. Three in ten (29%) said the campaign had left them with a better perception of the prime minister, while 28% said it had left them with a more negative perception of Corbyn.

“The picture in 2019 is starkly negative. Views of Johnson and the Tory campaign are mixed but the Labour campaign is seen as a failure by 55% of voters, worse than the 49% saying this about Theresa May’s disastrous 2017 campaign. Heading into the final week, a recovery is not impossible but doing so would require a turnaround even more spectacular than the one Mr Corbyn achieved last time.”

How the gently caress do the supposedly left wing Guardian end up with the most doomsaying pollsters? I'm am going to laugh in their loving faces come Friday morning.

What are some good examples of parts of the NHS that have already been privatised, to counter the 'if tories wanted to sell the NHS they would have done it by now' bullshit?
The best counter is the 'free at the point of service' problems, where all treatment is supposed to be free but a few trusts around the country have decided to start reclassifying services as 'non priority' and charging for them. Things like ear syringing, or steroid injections for RSI and arthritis, and even hip replacements - source.

Non priority means that either;
1
- Only certain ops are deemed to be non priority (in which case your trust has a financial incentive to deny you it and we start getting into US-like areas of HMOs),
- Or it means that ALL hip replacements / steroid injections are now deemed non priority, which is bullshit.

Either way, this is a change made under the tories that means the nhs is no longer free at the point of service, which is a dangerous step for it to be taking.

Oh, and some GP surgeries in London are charging for priority appointment slots, but I can't find a source because the Sun and Mail are spamming a study that says people should have to pay £25 loving quid for an appointment. I remember it was on an underground ad.

McDonnell said in an interview (so not the manifesto) they are looking into ways to fairly implement a £125k per recipient cap, so larger families will actually benefit more per person. It sounds like it's got a lot of planning still to go, but it's also supposed to curb inhertited wealth, so... Sorry but the policy is working as designed?

£125k is enough for a very decent down-payment on a mortgage, a mortage she'd be able to pay easily under Labour's welfare & social security plans.
