At this point I think despair at the state of British politics is almost necessary, because it reinforces how badly the forces of capital are aligned against us, and why we need to look for other solutions than worrying about the next election. Because even if we get a larger number of seats than the Conservatives, this environment isn’t going to just disappear.

Meanwhile, Boris is banging the ‘how dare EU citizens treat the U.K. as part of their own country’ drum, and the hostile environment is about to get a hell of a lot more hostile. My wife was shouted at in the street again last week for daring to speak to our daughter in Portuguese. I’ve seen someone who has always been outgoing and extroverted becoming nervous and introverted in public because she’s worried that people will hear her accent and attack her for it. Our media has created this environment, and until it changes, the UK is going to be absolutely toxic.

This probably won't make you feel better, but I'm coming to understand that being very intelligent doesn't mean you have an unlimited attention span; even if you have the ability to think about things critically, you still have to choose to do that.

I was talking to my sister last week, and while she's someone I think of as smart and switched on, her take on GE 2019 is "they're all as bad as each other" because she'd uncritically swallowed the "Corbyn is an antisemite" line from the news. The bright spot in this is she identified it as a story from last year, so I'm choosing to believe she just hasn't been paying attention lately (tbf she does have a new baby). She also seemed open to my suggestion that the ownership of the papers might have been a factor in that story, and couldn't actually identify any specific example of antisemitism when asked. I doubt I've convinced her to vote Labour this time, but at least I can't see her going CON or LD.

Anyway this was a long post to say, keep trying! Even if you can't shift him in time for this election, it's still worth it!

Whether we do it after a loss or we do it later because Corbyn got old, we'll have to replace Corbyn some time.

It's pretty clear, though, that if he's replaced with another left progressive candidate they'll just roll out all the same arguments. If they can't find any dirt they'll just remind you that they were part of Corbyn's cabinet, a friend of Corbyn, and are just like him. They will stop at nothing to get a centrist fart like Harman or Kendall into the seat so that we have that American scenario of choosing between two establishment governments.

Corbyn’s going to dramatically outperform expectations again and the media will again be spluttering into their coffee trying to explain how and why.

• Meet the scrum master and talk through the different stages of development from “I’ve got a great idea” to “this is now available to the user” with the different team functions laid out.
• Meet our head of infrastructure, get the side off a couple of PCs, point out the main bits and have a go at replacing some pieces. I’ve got a unit that needs the motherboard swapping so he can do that, and take the unit from not working to working by himself.
• Meet the head of our support team to talk about the problems his team has to fix, and how different people in the team complete different roles.

I’m briefed to run through these things personally if he doesn’t want to meet any more new people, and I spent yesterday typing up as much as I could with diagrams etc so if he wants to do the whole thing without talking to anyone at all that is also on the cards. My biggest concern is that apparently when he’s stressed he goes totally non-verbal and I don’t know how to deal with that. I’ve already asked that if people see us walking round the office, please don’t come and introduce yourselves.

Does anyone have any advice or feedback?

Could you find a meeting room with neutral colours that’s segregated from the rest of the place, and control access for the duration of the visit? Can print off some paper signs to reroute people away.

I have autism and can speak of my own experiences and needs. They may not map perfectly to his, but can maybe help you understand the condition a bit.

If it was me, it would be unwise to take me into loud and crowded spaces. Look at them through windows or door windows, and if I say I want to go inside, then it's okay. Don't take me into the middle of the room. Sound coming from all around me is disorienting and messes me up. Walls and corners are good. Speaking from in front of me is best, and people should avoid shouting like foghorns when speaking to me. Don't have loads of new people come up and talk directly to me, it can get overwhelming. I won't necessarily be up for handshakes, and especially not endless ones with people I don't know. Try not to spring surprises on me, I'm not built for that. It generally takes me a little time to absorb something new and unexpected. Let me lead when it comes to when I'm comfortable moving on and when I need a break. Check in about that, and try not to assume anything. Stick around to the end of the tour if you can. Don't hand me off to others if you can help it, and don't leave me alone in an unfamiliar environment (a quiet room for resting excepted - in that case being alone is beneficial for me). This experience will tire me out, and I'll run out of energy to continue at some point. If that happens, I need to stop. Make sure everyone respects that.

Good on you for offering to help :)

According to the Corbyn Twitter slightly above 4 million people registered, compared with just above 3 the last time around. Indicates higher turnout, no? Who are they enthusiastic to vote for? Maybe people just hate squirrels? Or the Tories tapped into their strategic gammon reserves, sealed in an abandoned part of the London subway and untouched since the Blitz?

I think I'm going to concentrate on shared hatred of the tories, that is the biggest commonality we have. From there it's been easy to slip in things like 'well you know Labour want to investigate the DWP, close them down and get rid of PiP assessments', and insidiously slide in the idea that Swinson (who he has admitted he hates) is absolutely going to go into coalition with the Tories, handing his vote to them just like they did in 2010.

Fight the good fight folks, wherever you can, however you can. I can't influence people much, but if I can turn him, his missus has a fairly popular YouTube channel, so maybe I can butterfly effect a change?

If a poll suggests a tory vote above 43% it can be discarded immediately. If it suggests a vote above 40% it's probably dodgy but not immediately so. The tories are not getting any more people to vote for them this time around than they did last time.

It's all about turnout. The under 50s turn up to vote then the country is red.
