I'm starting to feel like the elections are and have been rigged for a long time now in most western countries. I don't think it would be a very hard thing to do if a group of wealthy people who own all the political, media and physical infrastructure of each country got together and planned to do this... How would anyone know? How would anyone like myself right now saying this avoid looking like a tinfoilhat conspiracy theorist?

The way things are set up, how is it possible to penetrate the layers of bullshit if the people in power use their ridiculous resources to concoct a huge conspiracy that no-one would believe was possible because our media defines what is real and what is ridiculous? They could just present whatever results they want, and back them up with completely fabricated narratives that no-one is capable of cross-referencing with anything else in order to disprove. Every resource you can use to get information is controlled by the people that own the institutions that collate that information. I apologise for the tinfoil but god drat sometimes it seems like the world is so stupid and I have so much trouble reconciling that with the fact that everyone I interact with wants a better life, and the people offering that seem to always just get destroyed by what I'm told is the result of everyone voting.

I'm drunk, I'm suspicious, and I'm sad. I'm sad for everyone that is going to suffer because of this "result", if that is even what it is. (is this barganing or denial?)

I have this feeling. It’s gross.

I also know that ultimately, while a lot of Tory voters will suffer at their own doing, a lot of Labour supporters will as well and I feel worse for them.

Nah, having seen how elections like yours (Canada, seems to be basically the same thing over here), the results are almost certainly the real ones.

The actual rigging is done in the media.

They don't need to tamper with the results en-masse, they can simply rig it openly, by controlling the narrative via wealthy control of the press and setting the rules by which people are allowed to engage with politics.

This is not called rigging, it is called liberal democracy, it is how it is supposed to work.

My girlfriend has the opinion that he is generally unlikeable, but she had no explanation as to why. I'd think it's just a general media making GBS threads on him constantly - and if not believing what they say, just hearing negative comments and seeing pictures of him scowling constantly is not going to help things.

There's also the other theory, that he comes across as being incredibly sincere and he does a lot of good poo poo - which makes people a little pissy because they think about how they could be doing good things but they're not.

Either way it's dumb as gently caress, and I personally think it's because the media poo poo on him constantly.

I'm genuinely, not in a poo poo-posting kind of way, interested to see where he goes. His ideology is whatever it needs to be for him to get elected at all times, which is why what he stands on the spectrum changes whether he's London Mayor or Spectator columnist. With literal free reign, he now actually has to be what he stands for in his head. And I haven't got a clue what that's supposed to be.

You're probably right and it's depressing. My best friend didn't vote because he fell for the "they're all bad" propaganda. I chewed him out on whatsapp for it and he basically just joked around. I said I was not going to carry on with the conversation because it was going to really piss me off and bowed out for the night, but it really dispirited me because he was treating it ike a laughing matter and I was taking it seriously, and I loving used to do exactly what he is doing now. Because I was an ironically detached Gen-X prick back then. So I can't really kick him too hard for it because I was guilty of the same. I now have some perspective on how others must have seen me back then.
