Fights vs a ton of lovely lights are fun if you have punch bots though, there is just something immensely satisfying about crushing locusts in melee.

Is there a thread for MW:5 Mercs? Or is that here? I'm curious how it is but don't want to give them any money until I hear back, after getting burned years ago on a MWO pre-order.

Replacing the AC10 on a Hatchetman with a UAC10 makes it into a much deadlier mech. It even had -1 ton, so I was able to add some extra armor in there.

I really like that a lot of the + weapons have lower tonnage or slot usage now.

For all of the people on the fence looking at this mod, I think the problems with escort missions are being a bit over-blown here. I've had the vehicles get temporarily stuck a few times, but only perma-stuck like once or twice. Which is annoying but I don't think so buggy that I'd want to get rid of the missions entirely. I don't play ironman, but if I did I'd rather just use the debug menu to fix things. (Also escort missions are fairly easy and a good way to build your forces up in the early game.)

OTOH one of the reasons I don't play ironman in pretty much all games is bugs.

Yeah, or at least don't piss them off too much, because they'll mark up the prices more the more they hate you. The black market is the best source of cool stuff and full negative rep means a literal thousand percent markup.

I keep going to .5 and 1 star planets and baby contracts for them don't even show up any more lol, so I'm stuck at 200% markup.

I've seen people post mechs with equipment like ECM and Battle Computer that aren't Ravens and Cyclops, and I'm not certain if this is vanilla behavior or a mod. I haven't seen any upgrades like this in the wild, so I'm inclined to think mod, or very unlucky.

I've seen ECM in stores. Prior to heavy metal, it was available in faction stores for the CC and the FS I think, so I'm pretty sure this isn't a bug.

Battle computer, and the others are a bug or a mod.

Installed and playing though the Battletech Advanced mod, got my hands on a Mad II with the 3 ballistics in the torso. Filled it with mortar/8s,its hilarious if ineffective. Just blapping vehicles and lights that are in the mix with literal meteors. Could use more damage though, 8x8 dmg in an aoe isn't much.

I also like how they have it set up for 7 mech drops, finally company level gameplay!

On my current play through I've been very careful to maintain my rep with the pirates. It's now sitting at +11 and I just bought a brand new, fully equipped Annihilator from them for just 12M cbills.

They also have an Atlas-2, fully decked out with DHS, but it is $28M and I don't have that much :(

It's always a good sign if a game has no thread at all on SA about it and its a new release.

It's bad. Do not spend money on it seriously.

Mortar is ok but mounting a bunch of good damage direct fire stuff is way more effective imo

I never bought a normal mortar but the thumper rules.

I see there's a non-thumper BS variant; is that just so the ai can field it or will the ai use the mortar against you?

I just want the ai to use this brokenly good stuff and ++ gear lol

Escort missions don't just get stuck. They also have a bug when the vehicles extract, one that always happens. If you're still in combat when the vehicles extract, you drop out of combat, the enemy gets a free turn of movement/brace, then you drop back into combat. It sucks a lot if you're running a fast lance that relies on positioning!

I have been playing with 8 salvage to build a new mech, and, honestly? It's super boring, do not do it. I just take full cash on every mission and save up for decent heavies when they pop up on the store as complete mechs.

All-cash payouts are very safe and very practical and extremely unexciting.

I did a campaign with 5 and frankly that was too much as it is, I cannot imagine the masochism of playing with more parts. The campaign I'm doing now with 4 seems to be the sweet spot for me, it's a nice balance of actually getting new mechs while not making it too easy by giving you a free robot every time your Marauder scores a head shot.

The only reason to play 8 is to turn on generous salvage and cash and run around with light mechs until you complete that achievement.

just started playing again with all expansions after completing the original campaign at release more or less; I had forgotten most of the Battletech stats/rules/etc. so it's been a fun re-learning experience... although I still don't have a good sense of what a great build is vs. one that is just managing or suboptimal for the chassis.

anyhow, dumb question: is there a lore reason for the skull disappearing while deployed for an Atlas?

This happened to me last night and led to an emergency withdrawal after it gave a hunchback two consecutive turns to close in and blap my already-damaged lrm boat. At least it was a good faith wuss-out I guess

It took twenty hours at 3 salvage to get my first heavy. That feels fine to me; the campaign doesn't need to go forever or anything.

The more I play with it, the Thumper isn't really all that good, but it's fun as hell. Same with the LBXs - they're not overwhelmingly powerful like the snub ppc ++, but sandpapering everything to death rules. I really hope the AI doesn't get to use the BS lol

Higher salvage requirements hurt ~my immersion~ because if I just scored a clean pilot kill why the hell don't I get the whole thing and everything on it if I have max salvage on that mission?

I am at the point where I need to jack up some of the other difficulty settings and/ or get some mods to tweak them.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are. You are destiny.

I feel like 4 works because even with a clean pilot kill, you've got wear and tear, battle damage and a cockpit to hose out and refit.

I think I'm still mad at the Black Knight as a mech for it's role in a 3.5 skull battle where I was faced with two of them, a Schreck PPC Carrier, two Warhammers, a Marauder, a Griffin and a Wolverine.

12 PPC OPFOR and I come in with three Thunderbolts and a Jaegermech missile boat thinking I've got this one in the bag. I must have restarted ten times trying to keep everyone alive and in fewer than three pieces.
