I can see this being in a late '60s or '70s cook book. They put wild things into jello back then. I collect church cookbooks, and let me tell you, the jello sections descend into madness.

ThePopeOfFun posted:I collect church cookbooks, and let me tell you, the jello sections descend into madness. Ah! Is that where they are? I got interested in the Jello Molds with Weird Things In question, and I collect vintage cookbooks so I analyzed major books from each decade from the 1930's on, trying to find the origins of these things - and none of them, not even the 1960's and 1970's books, had more than a few routine items, none particularly weird. A tomato aspic here, a lemon jello with orange sections there. I was surprised because I really expected to see a mid-century explosion of jello concoctions. If I had had the time and sources handy I would have checked vintage magazines next, figuring that maybe they would appear in articles with titles like "100 ideas for your ideal holiday buffet." Church cookbooks hadn't occurred to me. Wow. Itch, now scratched
