I mean we haven't even gotten past January and off the top of my head: Cyberpunk, FFVII, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3, The Last of Us II, Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, No More Heroes 3, Spelunky 2, Watchdogs 3, Avengers, Ori 2, Dying Light 2, Halo... etc. And I'm not saying I'm excited for all those games because I'm not but they're just literally off the top of my head games I know are coming out in 2020. 'dry' doesn't seem accurate.

Yeah, my interpretation is something like this (and it also allows the story itself to have a little extra significance through effectively involving Cal preventing Luke from being found).

I stumbled across this great animation and one of you needs to dub it over or do something to make it even more hilarious. Make the thing into a disco ball or something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVC3XBbfQpw (just uploaded sorry for poo poo quality)

I got the dual saber in what felt like an accident with no cut scene. Didnt even know there were other ways to get it.

The fact that you can get the double saber in a scene with no explanation or dialogue is actually kind of a huge oversight and something they really shouldn't have allowed to happen. Either record dialogue for that scene or take out that way of obtaining it.

They have a scene for it but also wanted to pretend the game has open-world player choice so you only get the scene on one of the planets and nothing on the other two. Its like the game almost punishes you for exploring by withholding story content.

They sorta handwave it by giving you another switch when doing the upgrade - Dathomir gives you Magus, Bogano Cordova, and I don't recall what Kashyyyk's is called or if there's one on Zeffo A line like "There's some old lightsaber pieces here, I wonder if..." and then he fiddles with it and whammo, he's got another blade It's just the fact it's silent aside from the one on Bogano being a problem

They kinda encourage backtracking by having Cere mention previous planets once you get new powers - even saying that it might be worth going back to Bogano and checking around for Cordova's hidden caches after the first Zeffo trip, but the game's also pointing you at Kashyyyk to progress the story, so...

That's one of the issues I hope they'll learn from and tweak in the presumable sequel. I know you *can* break the story sequence and go look for random stuff, but that barely even entered my mind the first time around because it's basically an occasional throwaway line of dialogue vs a waypoint marker and specific instructions on where to continue the story.

Just the ability to warp between save points would be a godsend and just have it be a gameplay thing rather than a story thing and never mention it

I still think that what this game (which is good) needs the most is simply more variety in the planets but maybe that's just because I have a massive hard-on for the Sci-Fi ecumenopolis

Yeah, teleportation was just a wish (heavily influenced by my similar disappointment at the lack of reaction at Link beaming in and out, even by people who have no clue who he is). Most realistically it'd probably be a sped-up montage of Cal ineptly running through the level for the millionth time, as based on my usual play style.

Just wooped taron's rear end on grandmaster using the switch attack. Dodge attacks accordingly then run in, hold square to destroy stamina bar, roll back. Repeat as needed, embarrassingly easy after all the times I tried to actually fight using skill lol Game bad in many ways, but also good in important ways.

I thought this game was great! Lots of little things to complain about but I think if they polished a few elements for a sequel it could be a stand out. Gameplay was excellent but the real heart of it was clearly characters and story. I actually wanted to take time to see dialogue options because I found the characters really compelling. Spoiler about a late game story element I loved: The lightsaber is effectively the main weapon, both sword and shield, and the ability to do some minor customization is good, but through Cal's cutoff from the force and his trauma from losing Jaro Tapal the story manages to make it seem 'other' since it's not Cal's and thus not "yours". When you break it and suddenly just have to run for it on Dathomir it really makes you feel vulnerable, and is one of the successful backtracking elements because it shakes up the usual process by making you escape rather than fight (unless you did this already to save time, I generally didn't). Thus when you go to get a new crystal and it shatters it's an effective 'all is lost moment' that BD-1, who the game has given so much character and personality to, re-frames the moment. Unlike Cal's history, which you learn about in drips through the story, BD-1 and Cal's relationship has been something you've experienced fully, so it's an effective moment that connects you to the story. It's masterful that at this exact moment the game gives you the opportunity to fully customize the color of the lightsaber. It creates a new sense of ownership and reinforces it with a direct visual cue that you will pretty much always see. The game then gives you a crazy powerful new attack and then throws a bunch of enemies at you with a sense of urgency so you can use the tool you made and the new ability. It's an incredibly satisfying experience that I haven't gotten in many games, and was a real pleasant surprise to realize how excited I was to wipe through fascists with my new awesome golden lightsaber moves.

The one plot beat that bugged me a bit was the one with Malikos. It bugged me because Malikos was partially correct, but obviously also a pretty bad guy who was obsessed with obtaining personal power. Like, he wasn't wrong about the Jedi Order and the whole nature of the Nightsisters implies that "everything that isn't a light side Jedi is bad" (which is sorta treated as common sense by Jedi) isn't true, and Cal just sort of went "no." Though it is nice that Cal gave up on trying to rebuild the Order. One other kind of strange/interesting plot choice was having Cere survive and Trilla die. It's pretty unusual for the guilty master to live and for their fallen apprentice to die. It would be normal if both of them died, or if just Cere died, but now Cere has to live with the knowledge that Trilla had potential for redemption but then died anyways.

I mean say what you will about The Last Jedi, but the events with Kylo seizing power for himself was far more interesting than another redemption arc.

I get that they want to do more character development on Cere in future instalments but you can't have the ending both ways, you gotta pick one. Anyway idgaf about star wars but the game was pretty solidly fun. Even though it only had three actual bosses in it the combat is surprisingly well polished and balanced, it gives Sekiro a decent run for its money even. Game world is kind of rough and has crunch time written all over it but w/e.

So I just returned to Dathomir after repairing my Lightsaber on Ilum, and before shutting down for the night, I peeked at the trophies I had so far. I noticed there was one for recruiting every possible member of the Mantis. I feel like Im pretty far in the game at this point, but I still only have Cere and Four Arms. What/who did I miss?

The outfits in this game really represents a peculiar design choice. Why not actual outfits instead of ponchos and jackets. Id have loved the outfit and sword from that sequence, maybe Jedi robes or outfits reminiscent of iconic ones (Corellian Smugler to match Cere would have been nice too!)
