When coming up with headshot builds I never give enough thought to using a cluster of >30 damage weapons instead of 1 or maybe 2 >60 damage weapons. Seems like a quad UAC2++ setup could be hilarious for instance. Fire 8 shots @ head, if 2 connect it's instant

The ++ infernos are actually pretty ridiculous, I made a Cyclops with 6 medium lasers and two infernos and it's horribly undergunned but just the two inferno racks can push most mechs almost up to their heat cap and shut down mechs that are already a bit warm. I managed to find and buy 2 Inferno++ in my brand new career when I only had medium mechs and I almost felt bad for the few assaults I've come across so far.

I restarted an early career mission because the Firestarter I dropped to 1 point of rear CT structure managed to use a radiation field and survive half a dozen more rear shots as well as several rear melee attempts, while also taking my Vindicator's arm, overheating my own Firestarter, and forcing my Raven to run like hell. On top of being space-poor and having pilots who couldn't hit a barn door with the Tsar Bomba, the game decided to put Aidan loving Pryde in a Firestarter. 2 missions later I headcapped a Rifleman, get all three pieces on a 2/11 salvage contract. Game crashes due to memory issues, most recent save is pre-mission. RIP. I don't remember having issues before getting the DLC, it runs fine for a few missions before dropping framerate, lagging, and trying to burn my CPU up in the process. Edit: I also finally finished the campaign with Dekker alive. I'm somewhat disappointed there isn't an achievement for this.

I just unlocked the Argo tonight (I don't get to play much so I was putzing around doing 1* missions) and man, I love this poo poo. I took a beating getting into the jail, and after I did get in I stupidly rushed the most damaged mech in first because I didn't see any signatures. Luckily that was also my close range shotgun centurion with a Snub PPC and 3 SRM6's and loving blasted the dudes that came out. Ugh, so good. I also have an AC/20 now and blowing off limbs with one shot is fantastic

After my stumbling block earlier i've been cruising through the campaign and now sitting on an Archer, Battlemaster, Awesome, Highlander, and just finished a KING CRAB. (bought 2 salvage at 1.1m each from black market) Trying out different builds now King Crab seems like a monster, should I go full short range brawler with SRMs and AC/20s?

I'm one part from the royal highlander in career mode and the pirates jacked the prices to 1000% because of all the FPs I've been doing shooting them, rip Though since I used it, the Griffin, and the Atlas 2 so much now I'd really just want the SLDF Black Knight, which I've never seen outside the one mission.

Mounting 4 UAC5+++ (that's the one that does 45x2 damage, right? I might be getting it confused with the UAC2) on my Bull Shark and then putting my 10 Gunnery/10 Tactics pilot on it has been an amazing experience. He deletes a head every single turn.

Good on FS, but need something just just kills things up close? Stuff it full of MLs, SRMs and AC20s to taste. Maybe you've already configured your ARC, HGN and/or AWS for close range/melee. Turn it into an LRM boat or (if you already have one) fill it up with GRs, LLs, and/or AC5s. On particularly good config kind of covers all the bases, and works if you damage++ LLs, damage+ AC5s, and SRM+++s. Go with 2x AC5+ (1 ton ammo each), 2 or 3 LL++ (3 runs hot, 2 runs decent in lunar environments), and 2x SRM6+++. You do 200-250 damage at range, and add another 144 damage at close range. The really nice thing about this, is that its a decent headshot machine. The LLs/AC5s do 50+ damage. That, plus a SRM+++ is >60 damage. A precision strike on the head with a tactics 9 pilot has a 1 in 3 chance of taking off the head ... and even if you didn't, you just did nearly 400 damage. If you have damage+ UAC5s, I'd go with 2xLL and 2xUAC5.

Now do the same thing, but on an annihilator. Each UAC5 is doing >100 damage. Who needs headshots, backshots and sideshots when you can precision strike through the CT easily ... at range.

I just got back into playing battletech after it first came out - I have all the DLCs, and it seems like something changed with regard to how the stores work. For instance, I’ve visited 5-6 planets on career mode and nobody seems to sell anything other than autocannons. Does anyone know of any resources that outline how stores work currently?

Are those tweaks in the OP w/r/t speeding up the game still relevant? I know they've made some changes to the game since launch around game speed but wasn't sure how much of that is still there or if they added in game options to change those settings now or what. I don't really want a 'fast mode' that skips animations and stuff because I like seeing the mechs stomping around but the pauses in combat are kinda weird so if I could get rid of those that'd be pretty cool.

They incorporated some of the changes from the old QuickCam mod into the base game at some point, so it's probably out of date. I tired running QuickCam with Heavy Metal/1.8 and it hosed things up so I deleted it.

I got the sldf highlander in my career mode and instantly threw all my snubs and lbx and small laser +++s and srm+++s into it It's a little nightmare monster e: Also the dfa mods.
