I feel like when a color guy is ALWAYS just filling dead air it starts to wash over me and I start to tune them out. I'd much prefer a guy like Peyton being there to occasionally give observations or analysis based on what he sees without being obligated to give a long take after every single play.

Peyton’s done a million commercials and always sounds rehearsed as gently caress; he’s just not really good at TV.

He's already much better than Collinsworth who has like 15 years of experience on him.

Collinsworth is getting worse every year. He has gotten really lazy with his analysis. He used to always have some narratives that he would introduce at the beginning of a game and then touch on if it was appropriate later, but now he just hammers those narratives home whether they make sense or not and doesn't really tell you how each team is adapting during the game ( which is Romo's strength ).

That was Mike Patrick, Joe Theismann, and Paul McGuire. You hear them most infamously in the TV broadcast of the Music City Miracle. Patrick was okay if not really memorable, but McGuire would make fun of Theismann talking too much at least once a game and it was always glorious.

You have to admit Coach Judge is a very strong coach name. He'll probably last a few years on the strength of that name alone

Although I respect him as a player and he destroyed the Giants more times than I’d care to remember it annoyed me that he got a slot when there might have been dozens or more qualified announcers / analysts out there for the job. The fact he left to go play in a losing season with Dallas brings a little bit of balance back to the universe.

Jiminy Christmas! Shoes! posted:I'd like to see more former coaches doing color and less players. Yeah, players always harp on something like dilfer and launch points or witten and whatever the gently caress he'd talk about, but coaches had a good CEO perspective of the game and could drill down into anything. Marvin lewis was kind of boring in the AAF but he had interesting stuff to say.

I was really impressed with Brian Billick once for calling a play before it was run, but apparently he'd gotten a heads up from his interviews that week. He didn't just read the defense like Romo does. Having said that I'm willing to run with this experiment to see if it's any better.

I'm sure part of it is the production crew telling him to focus more on storylines and less on real analysis, but he used to be pretty good and has definitely regressed to "THIS GUY... WOW! I LOVE IT" level of discourse.
