I watched the first episode of Jeweler Richard and it was...eh. Kinda bland. Richard is mysterious and very pretty but Seigi is kind of a dud because he's got this very shonen protagonist "hero of justice" thing going on that is presented in a very heavy-handed way. The historical perspective of the case and the small glimpse it gave into the lives of the two women was interesting. Since it's just starting out I'll cut it some slack for needing to introduce everyone and hopefully once they actually get to interact it'll pick up or will at least confirm whether or not it's just going to be boring and not worth continuing.

Somali has some very nice JRPG-esque music and I like the overall look of it, but curious to see what the actual plot will be. I'm a little done with the stoic-father-figure, naive-tragic-girl pairing dynamics after the last several years in pretty much all forms of media going hard on Dad Stories. Will definitely give it some time to make a case for itself though!

toilet ghost's first ep was really great. interesting premise and good comedic beats but it really sells on the aesthetic and character design. its to me a mix of shaft style weirdness in places, jojo's flashy but limited animation and mid 2000's hot topic kitsch

Lord Koth posted:Other changes - and some complaints they've engendered - I think are fine. Like, one I've seen repeated often is "yeah, dumb series, we're just supposed to believe these cases(particularly that one in Shibuya) are going completely ignored by the authorities?" Spoilers - they're not. One cut I think was reasonable for time was cutting scenes out several detectives actively investigating the first killing and trying to figure out what the hell happened - it's good for worldbuilding, but in the scheme of what needs to be accomplished in setting things up it's not too important. It WILL come up, probably in the next episode, since there are several figures who are rather important to the series on that side, but wasn't necessary for the first part. They skipped all the police stuff and went straight to the first event

Does Nekopara spend much time on the patisserie side of things, i.e. getting into how to make pastries and such, or is it just all catgirl stuff?

Tamba posted:They skipped all the police stuff and went straight to the first event Yeah, I don't know if they're planning on just modifying everything to remove them, and just removing most/all of the higher level plot as well, and they just stumble upon the diamond ring or something or if the relevant members will just pop up next episode with no real explanation as to why they're doing what they're doing. Also, for anyone who happens to be watching and can't read Japanese as it scrolls over the event description page, here's the relevant translation: Let's all get along and have fun, everyone. The last part with a 300 is a text mentioning that the first distribution of rings has happened - 300 rings scattered around the area. Bonus points for anyone who notices a certain interesting aspect about how that's worded. Lord Koth fucked around with this message at 06:21 on Jan 11, 2020 |

Grouchio posted:Jeyeezus. Did it actually get cancelled/postponed back in 2018 from all the backlash? When one of the manga volumes was released in japan, it had a little blurb on the cover that said 'TV series still in development!'. That's the only piece of info on the anime series since the PV. Even now, there is no studio or director announced, and the date is just '2020'.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is really selling the story with its animation. I was honestly expecting them to take away the manga style to make it easier to animate, but they really didn't! It's gorgeous! I love how the paneling is reflected in the anime. It does feel kind of like a throwback somehow, despite looking modern and so pretty. I'm really looking forward to the hijinks. If you want an ensemble(ish) series with a fascinating supernatural premise, awesome character beats, and humor, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Neddy Seagoon posted:I'm guessing "Game Over!" == immediate pixelated death, making it functionally a battle-royale Gantz mission? Nah, that one's pretty expected for this genre - though yes, just like hitting 0 points (and thus losing) a "Game Over" does mean death. It's actually... actually I just realized there's a translator error in the relevant line. Likely done to clean up what they just thought was just slightly too formal or whatever phrasing by the mangaka, when in fact it was strangely phrased deliberately.

I watched the compilation movies CR has rather than doing a full rewatch of S3 like I'd thought about to get ready for S4 and that was a pretty good way to remember who is who on the other teams and the newest one flows right into the Land vs Air ovas so you can watch those then jump into the first episode of S4 that's about 4 hours of Haikyuu!! that you could be watching right now!!

So I think I'm settled on what I'm going to watch barring the second episode of Somali being really good. In no particular order: Magia Record, because I was going to watch more Madoka anyway but so far the episodes have actually been creepy-good Room (Heya) Camp, because I need my Camp Seton Academy is cute and I'm a sucker for animal girls Keep Your Hands off Eizuken!, stand out anime of the season so far, maybe even AOTY Asteroid in Love. Moe, so very moe I watched the first episodes of a few other anime but they just didn't click with me.

Smile down the Runway is looking very good, def. watching that one. Hanako-kun's kind of comedy didn't catch me, dropped halfway through the episode. Nekopara didn't charm me, not bothering. Neither did the catboys (and dogboys) of Uchitama, not bothering with that either. Magia Record I'll at least give a couple more episodes (haven't seen 2 yet). Hatena Illusion is kind of interesting and I'll stick with it for now. The 22/7 anime is wtf. OshiBudo is cringe. Also I'm dropping Aikatsu on Parade, it's just pointless. Nothing interesting happens. Kyaha. Meanwhile PriChan has been amazing for many months now, looking very much forward to tomorrow's episode.
